You're comparing a SuperStock heavily modified racer to a modern street legal fully production certified GT coupe
That's probably where much of the 1500 lbs come from, right? You guys have a really tough time taking a compliment...

It's looking more and more like lowdown is right every day. I would buy the charger over the challenger at this point for a performance family car. I believe that Ford is going to have a much better offering very soon. And, who the hell knows what the next Camaro has in store. I'm on a wait and see approach at this point. Either way my ZL1 isn't going anywhere unless my wife's ban on a C7 gets lifted. Then it will go for a Z06 which I believe to be the most sexy car on the planet after getting to see one up close.

I saw that review LD .....

....The trap speed of 118 MPH they got is odd because the 8 speed auto trapped much higher...about 126MPH.

So I will wait to see some more testing of the 6 speed before I make a final judgment.....or buy......

Dodges silence on the 6 speed has me the most concerned to tell you the truth.....They flat out don't answer the question of what the manual ran during SRT testing.....and I have asked them directly.....I get no response or I get "We don't know but it's slower than the auto.".....
Total BS..............

I don't think they really care because the vast majority are going to get the ass kicking 8 speed auto....

First of all, I am NOT "picking" on Hemi Dave, who at least remained civil and somewhat open-minded (considering his "handle") throughout this entire "discussion". What follows is a selected edit of the last 7+ weeks, here:

You'll also notice this one is Automatic-equipped, which adapts well to a fully integrated electronic system.

Can one on DRs possibly break into the 10s, so equipped? It's certainly not impossible, under ideal conditions, with max'd electronics...which is where I said Mother Mopar spent a LOT of time getting 'em right.

In practise, the best reported times in an Automatic-equipped Hellcat are benefitted significantly by well-sorted electronics. That's NOT my stupid uneducated assessment; that information sharing comes from TWO well-placed Mopar sources. The Manual versions are somewhat slower...because their electronics package for obvious reasons can NOT be maximized to the same level, particularly on OEM street tires.

And finally, the GT500 with its 5.81 lb/hp meets or betters the Hellcat's weight-to-power number...and pretty much matches the Hellcat in expected 1/4-mile times on OE tires WITH A MANUAL TRANS. Were the Shelby available with an "electronically-integrated Automatic with aggressive launch management system" (my quote), its times would no doubt plunge, as well...
[7/16/14 - for all that follow]

$59,900 MSRP, Base, makes this very good value BUT, like the days of old in the original muscle era, Mopar's overall presence on the street will still trail its domestic competitors in sales volume.

....We have to wait and see.......

Dave, we get that you're strong on this car (what's your handle, again?). But FACTS don't support your "rumors".

How in God's name, on skinnier OEM tires, is a 6-Speed Manual Dodge with an OEM/EPA-compliant tune and the same or slightly worse weight-to-power as the vaunted GT500 going to beat it by 1/2 a second in the 1/4-mile? REALLY?!

The "phat" times are with a well-integrated electronic-controlled AUTOMATIC, and now even Jalopnik is stating "stock, runs 10s!"...even though at least DRs are required. Gas Monkey is EXACTLY that...NOT a renowned drag racer of any repute, anywhere...and an "entertainer". Paid to "promote". Anything he says without 3rd party video confirmation is "for entertainment purposes, only!"

So NOW, "put a monkey in the seat and you can run 10s off the showroom floor" is what the "REAL" story is?!

I'm from Missouri...

Still waiting on more information on the 6sp and track times for the Auto Hellcat, the standard Challengers have always been a bit slower than the Auto in the 1/4. I was disappointed in the time we have from the one 6sp tested, Im thinking that most people will be going for the Auto, and that the 6sp will have a lot less made.
