Cool, I guess, but man, that car is guaranteed to be worth something 30 years from now, I don't see why he'd hack it up like that. Sacrificed some performance too in the process.

i don't think they 'hacked it up' but simply put the ZR1 drive train and cosmetic bits on a C6 'vert. i remember a few years ago a guy made a 1 of none C5 Z06 'vert it was so well done made me wonder why the 'general did not do it first

I think it looks nice, probably just a base C6 vert with a ZR1 conversion. I always thought that GM should offer a vert Z06 now that the ZR1 is the top vette. There were a couple C4 ZR-1's built as concepts in the 90's.

I remember those, but they are not very easy to do as the ZR-1 rear end body work was wider than a stock C4 mostly to clear the VERY wide for the time tires.

Probably a lot easier to cut the roof off a real ZR1 than to change out ALL the body parts, seats, engine, etc to make it a Vert.
Heck I bet the parts are nearly just bolt in to convert it....

That is illegal for that car. I was told by the design team that they couldn't have a vert in the ZR1 because of the power aspect, that in the USA its consider dangerous. Thats one of the reason the new McLearn SLR isn't going to be sold in the states because its illegal given the amount of power the car makes. So I hope he never gets pulled over in that thing.

im pretty sure thats a legit ZR1. look at the rims, brakes, hood, motor cover, fenders, carbon fibre front splitter/side skirts, embroided seats. theres no way in hell a guy converted a c6 convertable to a zr1 that would cost a fortune.
