yeah, we already checked out the xps 18 at best buy. they only have the 799 i3 version there, so if we get one, we'll probably order from dell, the i7 version. it's only $100 more than the i5

Is you employer a Microsoft shop? Only reason I ask is because I get Office for free from both school and work. You just have to ask your IT department and maybe you can get it for free if not, they might have the Microsoft Home Use program where you get a copy of it for 10 dollars. To do Home use, you just need your work email and a code that is given to you by your IT department.

If either of the two I listed above don't work out, Office 365 for Students is not a bad deal either.

If we wanted the XPS 18 i7 we would have to order soon. The shipping date is Aug 15 and classes start on Aug 25.

So was looking at other desktops with the i7 processors and they are priced the same if not more. So it look like the 1300 price range is because we are looking at the i7

I was thinking i7 because it's the 3rd generation, which isn't the newest generation processor. they now have a 4th generation i7 and i5. You could live with the i5 processor (3rd gen). Need to find out if it comes with a SSD, like the i7 does. if not, might want to install one ourselves, or see if they can build you one with a SSD.

and yes, I know how to install a hard drive. lol

Well my concern is getting it delivered in time.

Another reason why I am turned off by the XPS 18 is because the lack of USB ports. Otherwise I am sold. I really don't need much to be happy with a PC.
