I completely agree. NO WAY a bone stock ZL1 is 535 at the wheels. No way.
If that's the case, then like you said the crank HP number is not 580.

What makes that cement so DARK? That isn't water, is it? That isn't fresher pavement, is it?

Uh...VHT, maybe?!

Runs were made, and those runs were timed, in the presence of many, @ PIR.

Where are the 6-Speed times? Motor Trend says they'll be reported "later". Why?

So the order bank for those 3,000 or so cars can be filled BEFORE you find out the Automatic times are AS GOOD AS IT GETS...and the Stick is about GT500-worth. NO BIG headlines in that "news", is there?

"Automatic, with OUR drivers, and confirmed by NHRA [on a prepped track], it's the QUICKEST MUSCLE CAR EVER!"

Your times may vary...especially with a 6-Speed.

Off-topic (but not really):

"Copy" sells magazines which, in case you haven't been paying attention, are in a great deal of trouble...and shrinking, by circulation and therefore by title, almost daily. Here's what recently happened @ Source-Interlink (ex. PRIMEDIA ex. Petersen Publishing), home of Motor Trend et al, and this was just in the auto area.

Manual times always vary.......

Just because someone can't drive a car to its limits doesn't mean they aren't going to be faster with that car than another. I'll probably never push my ZL1 to its limit in the turns, but I sure as hell can take it faster through the turns than any other car I've driven. As other reviews have said, it instills confidence, which leads to faster cornering. I'd put money on the average person will be able to drive the ZL1 faster in the twisties, street or track, than the Hellcat.

Weight-to-Power:

GT500 = 3850/662 = 5.82...on 285-section tires...mid/upper 11s

ZL1 = 4120/580 = 7.10...on 305-section tires-rear...low 12s

Hellcat-Automatic = 4400/707 = 6.22...on 275-section tires...11s

Hellcat-Stick = 4300/707 = 6.08...on 275-section tires..."times to be determined"

How will the TWO-Point-TWO TON TONY "blow away" the competition, with a Stick? It and the GT500 have similar "adjustable" suspension; there's less power loss with a log-axle than IRS; they share a 57/43 weight distribution...and the Dodge has tires from a $33,000 Camaro SS.

Just curious...

short of side stepping the clutch on slicks the Automatic will be as good as it gets when you are talking about a 6+spd automatic with a PD blower, this will only be a surprise to those who have not been paying attention for the last 5 years.

Nowadays you dont buy a manual car for straight line performance , the Autos rule there now. You buy a stick for more precise control and a more "spirited" driving experience , but even the gap there is closing as auto technology advances.

And, because you're now linked undeniably to Boz Scaggs, may I offer this as musical consolation for your Dodge Love? Listen to the very end...Hellcat will meet an "angel"!

...so that you might keep up with 1LEs and BOSS '02s costing $15-20K less...

Good call.

You didn't wait for the angel, did you?

Also see 4VFTW for his frank (or was that ralph) assessment of a 6-speed Kitty...

No i'd buy the A8 if I was buying and the race would be over by the 1st turn...no 1LE or Boss drivers would have the stones to try to pass me on the outside

The more I think of it, and the more "revelations" are shared, I don't smell "cat"...

I smell SKUNK...about this whole P.R.-fueled deal. There are now soooo many asterisks and "conditions", from Mother Mopar AND the "hungry for a story" media about this Hellcat that it's difficult to discern "what is".

NO credible 6-Speed times...and they DO offer one, don't they?

"Pavement-only testing"...while proudly displaying the cars, on their very own website, on an OBVIOUSLY VHT-treated CONCRETE Launchpad...

Tree 'n electronic timers present...but relying on an onboard timer?!

I'm NOT picking on Motor Trend. If you go to any other online review, currently posted, they show the SAME cars in the SAME place...using the SAME onboard timers...and getting well-less than the ADVERTISED TIMES while the cars sit surrounded by the VERY "conditions" FCA is touting in their "11.2-FASTEST EVER!" tagline...

Yup...SKUNK.

I am actually from Missouri, so SHOW ME.

Maybe Consumer Reports will set the record straight!

The Camaro weighs over two ton too, is undeniably slower than the Shelby, and down over 100 horsepower.... The earliest 1/4 times have the Hellcat a 1/2 second faster than the best ZL1 magazine run. So, in this three way race (if that's what you wanna call it) if anyone is getting blown away it's those in the Chevy. I don't know why you even mention the ZL1, the car never hit 11s in a test.

What's it to you that a race between a Shelby and Hellcat is on paper a driver's race?

Sounds exactly like the circus that GM put on with the ZL1. At least Dodge said the 10.8 was on DRs. Unlike GM saying the ZL1 ran 11's bone stock only to fine out that the 11 runs were on slicks. They all do it. You just don't see it when GM does it because you sleep in a bowtie shaped bed while cuddling with your "find new road" blanky, and that's fine. But they all do it.
