Delivery Date, What to do

The day is finally here, I ordered my z51 stingray from a dealer in Ky with drop ship to NJ. The car has arrived at the NJ dealership but I can't pick up the car because I still have to sign some paperwork (which is on its way to NJ by overnight courier) and pay the KY dealer for the car.

Since the car is drop shipped to NJ, the NJ dealer is doing nothing, no registration (I have to go to DMV), but just handing me the keys.

Should I first visit the NJ dealer and inspect the car before paying, I assume it won't make a difference as I am getting a new vehicle, if I notice a problem what next? this is all theoretical but let me know what your thoughts are as I have not thought this through and need some help. Also what do people do when getting the car, do you inspect everything, open the hood, check for tears in the leather? And what about the break in while driving home?

I figure by the time I send the paperwork back and pay I can probably pick up the car on Friday or Sat. Thinking SAT morning so I have the weekend to enjoy it.

Dada, in some respects your situation is similar to that of R8C Museum Delivery. I didn't see my car until several days after paying for it, and had I found anything wrong at the time of delivery, the Museum doesn't have the facilities to fix it. I suggest visit the delivering dealership, inspect the car and note any flaws you find. Take photos too. Let the selling dealership know of anything you find, just to get it on file. I would let the delivering dealer know too, but it sounds like they may be less than sympathetic. The good thing is any Chevy dealer in the country that sells Corvettes can do any repairs you find necessary. The trick as always is finding one that treats you well.

As for the DMV visit, we in Missouri always have to do it ourselves. You should be able to go online to their website and see what paperwork is required from you. That way you have everything up front and avoid a second trip because you missed some obscure form. Perhaps the local dealership can advise you on what you need as well.

Hi both, supposedly there is no inspection :( Someone at GM was helping me because one week before the TPW they added Magnetic Ride and changed the drop ship for me so he told me that his team personally inspected the car. Having said that I don't know what happened after shipment took place.

Then there is the prep of the car which I was told the NJ dealer would do, like removing the cover and outer protective stickers. I asked my selling dealer to please ensure no decals or other sort of items are put in the car. He said he would.

But I can't get the selling dealer to give me a name or contact for someone at Pine, this is the 5th time I have asked them.

WHats even more silly is that the NJ can easily just issue me plates its a 5 mins process then I can register the car but I think the selling dealer won't allow that because it costs them more money and I paid supplier already after a lot of back and forth with them.

The hassles but its going to be worth it.

Can you tell me what flaws you found and what I should look for? Paint etc as I don't have a very good eye

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT pay for that car until you see it.

The receiving dealership has no obligation to fix anything to make it right.

Things to look for... Paint chips where body panels meet, look at/under the "chin" to make sure they didn't scrape it loading/unloading it, body panel alignment, scratches from the shipping car cover(mine still has to be buffed out), retorque lug nuts to 100 ft/lbs(mine were at 80 ft/lbs), and anything out of the ordinary.

Today I called the dealer in NJ, they had no information thought this car was delivered by mistake. I asked if I could come see it, he said the car was not prep, stickers still on, and will try to get it ready.

That shouldn't mean that you can't see. I think that my suspicious mind would be working overtime with that statement.

So this is the current story, they drop shipped it to the wrong branch of the dealership. They have one mechanic who does the prep for the vettes he's out till tmw.

Dealer in KY insisting I wire the money because it will take 2 days to get the money to them. The likely day I can see the car is possible tmw afternoon or THU for sure.

Problem is dealership is more than 1 hour away, if I have to go twice it will be a pain.

KY dealer says even if there is a scratch or problem u just report it on the spot, no need to return the car.

So confused but excited. Don't want to make a decision in haste.

I almost bought a car several years ago and the dealership said I couldn't come see it yet cuz it wasn't prepped.

Prepping for delivery should take no more than 3-6 hours.

3 days later the car still wasn't prepped.

The wife and I made a surprise visit and found the car in the body shop being prepped for paint!!!

The windows were out, body panels were in the process of being put back on, and the dealership told us, "We're just making sure the car is perfect for you. There were a few flaws in the paint on the driver's side."

Just on the driver's side? Then why was the car darn near taken completely apart???

So, my advice to you is...

DO NOT TELL THEM YOU'RE COMING and DRIVE AS FAST AS YOU CAN to the dealership and find out what's wrong with your car!!!
