Commits weekly crime
|
Chevy Service Department
OK...going to ask what you all think here...because I respect your opinions.
I've been having an issue with my Presets for seat position on my car. I took it in for service today at the Chevy dealer. I checked my mileage before I got out of the car (16305). The car was only in for an issue with the seat not moving forward and back properly using the preset. They reset programming on the seat, and that fixed the problem. When I got the car back, the milage was 16308. It went to 309 pretty quickly after I left the lot too. That's 2-4 miles, most likely at least 3. I called the service department back to ask about this, to figure out how/why they would have gotten this much mileage on the car driving around the lot. Initially, the manager didn't know...however he started saying that they do a 27 point inspection for EVERY car they bring in...and that inspection includes a drive "around the block". They do these drives around the block, no matter what the problem the car was brought in for. Personally, I wouldn't expect (or want) them to drive it around the block for an unrelated issue. Would you be concerned, or am I being overprotective? I'd love for a GM person to chime in on this as well, because I asked if this was standard for all GM Service departments, and he didn't know. Thing is...he didn't even think of this until 10-15 minutes after I brought it up...so I'm wondering if it is BS to cover their ass for joyriding in my car.

I can't speak for all dealerships, but I know all the dealerships I've gone to for even an oil change, they take the car for a spin. Unless you specifically tell them not to. even then, they might not listen. as like you said, it's part of their "inspection". I really wouldn't be too worried about it.

2-3 miles isn't much of a joy ride. Inspection.
That said, when I take my cars in for oil change at he dealer, I have appointment set and I usually just sit down and wait the 30-40 minutes. I see the car go from the service entrance to the bay, then back out... so they're not driving it more than about 50 feet.

Im a GM Tech for a dealership here in KY. The MPVI (multi point vehicle inspection) is standard on every vehicle that comes in. A test drive is not part of that. Its an inspection under the car, under the hood, and of wear and tear items (brakes, tires, wiper blades, ect) and we top off all fluids. It takes very little time to do and we don't get paid to do it so most techs do it as quickly as possible lol. Road test is not even on the paperwork or the online MPVI that we (the techs) fill out for that inspection. We only road test when necessary for diagnosis or to ensure a repair on customer vehicles and inspection wise its only for Used Vehicle Inspections, Pre Delivery Inspections (new vehicles coming off the truck) or city owned vehicles that have there own inspection paperwork they have us do. Not sure where this other dealership is coming up with that from. O.o'
