Hellcat first drive and review. At least the first one I've found today.

I feel people like that are idiots and just try to cause other people problems. If you can get a mix and match car more power to you. I really like the way dodge has their packages as mix and match. Before this is all over I may end up with 2 challengers.

Honestly the Hellcat reminds me a lot of the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 w/ the LS6. A straight line brute that won't kill you in the corners but is no corner carver either. Same with the Boss 429 and Ram Air IV 455 GTO's.

Except the Hellcat apparently can carve corners...probably better than 98% of drivers could handle. |

I thought the scat pak had the dumps, not active exhaust, but dumps. If you look at the gas monkey video its a button on the key fob. I don't think you can get it on the Hellcat.

This boat (totally stock) didn't do too bad...and that's without the adaptive suspension
You see....If you are too used to driving those "little cars"...you cant drive the boat...it will scare you ....lol... ![]() I expect the Hellcat will do even better...... http://news.westcoastchallengers.com...oin-the-ranks/

From the 392 Hemi up to the Hellcat, they have active exhaust, Similar to GM's exhaust flaps. http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/challenger/2015.html |

If there is any gating mechanism to bleed surplus boost, or any digital timing changes required for boost related knock retard, then you won't see the huge losses that N/A engines run into.
Example: Let's say your blown engine is at torque peak RPM, and you get some detonation at 2:1 pressure ratio, at sea level. You can either let some boost bypass, or you retard the timing. When you run into thinner air, it won't see that knock, so either sets the timing back to normal (advances), or perhaps even stops bypassing boost. With a NA engine, you can't adjust compression dynamically, and you have to add timing at high altitude due to the lesser true compression. Adding timing in this case simply adjusts for the slower, less efficient, burn rate. While the numbers might sound the same, it's not. There is a big difference between dropping timing to halt knock, and adding timing due to poor burn speed. Hence you never can really have a decent DA correction factor for blown engines. You could lose nothing at 10,000' DA, or you could lose just as much as an NA engine does. It depends on how much leeway against knock you had to start with. But, this is nothing new. You are only going to be able to compare apples to apples with blown engines. And everybody will still bitch at people who get to run at -800 feet DA track days.

In most cases people can't come close to pushing any of these cars to their limit. It's certainly fun for armchair debates but does anyone really see a Hellcat showing up at a track day and having a driver even remotely capable of pushing the car to get a decent time? Hell, I've only run into two ZL1s and a couple GT Mustangs this year and in Vancouver there are virtually no other places to come race. I'd love to see one come race and I'd take my losing like a man if it's faster but I'm not holding my breath for them to show up. Hell I've yet to even see a GT500 come out and there are lots of them in the area.
