It was a link in the Hellcat thread. The quote was something like "not that kind of horsepower, at least not in a Camaro"

I can try to look for it

Damn! This is nuts. Hope they start putting factory cages in them or you'll get kicked out of most drag strip after one run.

I take that article with a huge shot of salt. They mention 3500 pounds a potential weight which makes m believe it was a pipe dream written before the GTs weight gain was released, and now that HellCat Numbers are official someones just looking for ad traffic.

Here is the quote:
"A General Motors spokesman indicated that that automaker has no plans to try to approach the Hellcat's horsepower output, at least in a Camaro."

Here is the link to the article:

I think the horsepower war is going to be between Dodge and Ford for the muscle cars. That quote makes me think there may be a killer vette in the future, but nothing more for the Camaro

650 in the new vette is already going to be absolutely brutal.
The 460 out of the c7 is already deep 11s..

I think 72MachOne99GT is correct about this all being bs. The article at the top quotes a CNN source. The article you just posted also quotes a CNN source. Regurgetation of nothing.

"
A Ford spokesman wouldn't comment on its competitors car, but a new Shelby GT500 with, potentially, more power is expected to be revealed some time soon.

A General Motors spokesman indicated that that automaker has no plans to try to approach the Hellcat's horsepower output, at least in a Camaro. GM has already unveiled a version of the Corvette two-seat sports car, the Z06, with a 650 horsepower engine"

GM will have a Camaro in this hunt. It may not have 707 HP but it may not need it. As others have pointed out, drop to 10.99 and your not on the strip anymore so what's the point? 650 HP LT4 in a 3700 lb ZL1be fine

3500 could be accurate, but not likely. But only if there is extensive use of materials such as carbon fibre to lose weight. Which would only happen on an SVT vehicle (GT's and EB wouldn't need the same treatment). But even then, I'm sure you're correct. Lighter seats, CF drive shaft, thinner glass, etcetera can only account for so much. And the car would have to lose some 200lbs, which is asking a lot.

The next question comes as how much would a TT setup weigh vs the "old" Eaton SC setup the GT500 now uses? More piping and if it's air-to-air charge cooled, no liquid heat exchanger, coolant pump, coolant, or hoses.

A non modified factory production car is exempt from safety regs. No cage, no chute, nothing (unless its a vert or has t-tops). Just helmet and protective clothing down to 9.99. They changed that rule pretty recently.

Because the ZL1 won't get 650 horsepower, and it probably won't be anywhere near 3700 lbs.

I really hope it gets 750. I seriously doubt it though, they might be blowing smoke. Why would they announce the potential HP numbers for a car not in production, while no one has a clue what the current GT puts out and it started production today?

I see your point. The Z06 is gaining several hundred pounds and is estimated to be between 3600 to 3700 lbs. I didn't know if was gaining so much.

So how can there be any serious talk of weight reduction on the next gen? Why would Chevrolet walk away from the Camaro after accomplishing so much with the gen5? I find it hard to accept a CNN article on this.
