i haven't posted back in this thread, but I competed in the Canadian nationals for bench last weekend. its been an extremely rough last few weeks with my herniated disc causing SEVERE pain through my sciatica. I have basically been bed ridden. and not eating much. lost a lot of weight, but still tried as hard as I could to keep training. anyhow...

weighed in WAY light at 213. lighter than I have been in years, and I had no idea what my strength was, so I opened with 403, then 425, then 435.5 - all white lights and good lifts, then went to 441 and barely missed. so I hit a new PR in comp, lifted over 2x bodyweight and got a national record. given the enormous pain I have been in!!! I will gladly take those results. I will be seeing a dr as soon as I get back stateside.

Only thing I have to report is I did a 515 1 board press last week. In 2006 when I benched 501 2 weeks before the contest I did a 515 1 board press. AAPF (drug free) Masters record in my weight class is 501 so I'm almost there. I'll have to do 507 so hoping by the fall....

yeah, I normally weigh in close to 220, but I still made good strength gains this year so even with less mass I pushed slightly more. I only wish I never lost so much weight and strength, I know I would've been a fair bit higher.

as for the shirt, I bench in whatever t shirt I grab out of my bag lol. usually a Canada t shirt though when I lift in the states. gotta represent

they should let you chip the record right? so you would need about a 503 vs a 507... but hell 507 is always better lol. good stuff.

Well it will give you something to shoot for next year! Weigh in at a full 220 and hit an even bigger #!

So a raw meet? Good stuff!

Yes the do...but I think the chips they use are 1.5kg....need to check on this.

This is a "geared" record...I have lifted in an Inzer DD shirt for years but I don't get a lot out of it. I know guys with raw maxes 100lbs less than me that can out lift me by 100lbs in gear....

Think I'm going to try some different shirts this year and see if I can find one that works well for me. With what my raw max is I should be a 550-600lb bencher in a proper shirt.

Congrats on the record caper nothing but respect for those numbers.

Been lifting for a few years now and I have an old shoulder injury that has been bothering me the past few weeks, seems like everything adds to it (Squats, bench, shoulder work, even heavy bis/tris seem to irritate it) so wondering if you guys have any recommendations on things to do before training to help it and just in general.

I've been dealing with shoulder pain as well. Whenever I'd go heavier for reps it was really sore. Got mri done, they figured I had small tears in my stabilizing muscles. What Idid too help was voltaren gel a few times a day. And stopped doing reps withheavy weight and cut it down to doubles and singles. I also brought my grip in a couple inches. On shoulder day I went lighter for weeks and treated it like a rehab session. Close grip bench didn't bother it though. Curls did, so again I went lighter abd increased reps and shortened rest period. Advice all that, when I started to really hurt I called it a day and went home. Oh and I also used mobility wraps and stretches a few times.
