The Shelby's problem is not suspension. It's a combination of traction problems due to the stock goodyears and the computer clutch protection causing launch issues. With a tune and drag radials only I have run a 10.9@128 with a 13 gt500. The stock cars are hobbled by ford.

Funny you should mention LS7. Ive been wondering something since ive seen R&T 1/4 mile specs of the Z28. That car went 12.5@115mph with a LS7 that put down 450rwhp. Its a 3800lb car. Now take a 392 challenger thats "only" making 470hp @ 4200lbs and its running damn near what the Z28 is. I know of plenty 12.3-12.5's @ 114ish out of bone stock 392's. How in the world is that car matching the Z28's times down 35hp and UP 400lbs??? Thats crazy. Whats even more crazy is that with the new 8spd auto Dodge is advertising the 392 as a LOW 12 sec car where as with the old 5spd they advertised it as a high 12 sec car. Now this thing is in ZL1 territory as far as the drag strip goes. All while beeing down 100hp. Is Dodge just under rating those motors that much?? |

Not all the time. Take the GTR for example. Its a 4000lb car and its much faster than its power to weight ratio would lead you to believe. Drivetrain efficiency is very important. That dct does wonders for that car. Also like i just mentioned, the 392. With the 8spd auto it will be much quicker than the Z28 even though its down hp and weighs 400lbs more. 392 are running 12.5 stock add a tune and a tire and high 11's are very possible, good drivers are getting 12.3 out of them stock, with the addition of the 15hp and 8 sp trans 12.2, that is very close to the ZL1 1/4 mile time, the Hellcat is going to be faster than the Camaro in the 1/4 even it only has 600hp, Mustang will be a better race, we will need to wait until numbers are known to have a better idea.

Exactly. Not to mention that example is of a loaded car with over $5000.00 in options over a $14,145 base price.

The latest test with the Z28 vs the world from r&t has the Z28 going 12.5@115.9. Basically 116. Im not about to search the interwebz for all the links of 392 times but i know 12.3-12.5's & 110-114 is not a rare occurrence. Sorry but thats not in another league, at least not when speaking of 1/4 mile performance. Which car is faster wasnt my point. My point was they're close. Way closer than you would think when looking at their power to weight ratios. 400lbs is A LOT. Thats no less than 4 tenth's just off of weight, then you have to take into account of the 393 being down 35hp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

114 is a hero run for a 392. 116 is a poor random mag time for a z\28. a 392 hasn't come close to 118 stock. they run good but not z\28 good.

I picked up a very well equiped 1990 notchback LX 5.0L for 13995$ the LX was the car to get if you were getting the Mustang back in 88-93 they were the fast cars only car they could not take was the GN, the IrocZ was slower but I thought it had better lines. I wanted a 350 car with T-tops this car was in the high 20's with tax they were in the 30's I'm sure there are some Canadian owners here that would be able to produce a window sticker that could be used as a ref I can supply the 5.0L as that is the car that I ended up with. In 1992 I picked up a 5.0L LX notchback almost Loaded for 17995$ the difference between a 350 Camaro and a LX Notchback was quite large. I wanted a car with a lot of options did not want a base car in Mustang or Camaro.

Notice there are all of 6 people who have achieved sub-12.6 times. Out of the tens of thousands of 392 Challengers roaming the streets, 6 have posted times in this range. Notice how most of these times are 12.6 or higher? In fact, the average time from the average driver at Challengertalk is 12.98 @ 109.4mph which makes it a high 12's car.
