Holy Shi!, that car sounded mean. Is this a factory option or something he did aftermarket (dual mode exhaust?)
With the pricing on the Hellcat being out of reach, I think this 485-hp Shaker R/T paired with the new 8-speed automatic, will be the hot ticket. Hopefully pricing will be in the lower 40s about the same as a fully optioned SS or GT.

This is a factory option on the RT 392 Shaker as well as the SRT8 and I think the Hellcat Pricing is not out yet but I would think under SRT8 price for the RT Shaker

Honestly this car is a disaster. Who wants something so heavy and so expensive!? If it makes 700 HP it will cost over 70gs and STILL be slower than a GT500. Its like you either chose the ZL1 which is fast around turns and can be easily modded for 1/4, or you get the GT500 for 1/4. Both are cheaper and faster in their own respects.
I love the looks of it and probably would have gotten one over my Camaro if it didn't weigh so damn much. It needs a new platform and a diet BADLY. Just like the current Viper, this Hellcat isn't going to sell well when there are cheaper and better options. The Viper's main problem is the Vette. The hellcat has two, Zl1 AND GT500. Waste of time making this thing, they should have just started focusing on the next gen. |

I don't think it's a waste of time. It keeps Dodge in the game with a halo car offering without the expense of a full chassis overhaul, which is coming. Most if not all of the technology developed for the Hellcat can be carried over to a new chassis.
It's also good fro car enthusiasts, even if you don't care for the Dodge brand. It puts pressure on Chevrolet to add some HP to tue ZL1, as well as Ford to produce a 2016 GT500 fire breather. We live in good times car wise. As far as weight, a Zl1 weighs 4120 -4300lbs, depending on if it has an auto trans or sunroof. Projected weight for the Hellcat is 4300-4400 lbs. so roughly 100-200 lbs. more. Will it challenge the ZL1 on the road course? Probably not, especially not with 275 rear tires. It will perform admirably for what it is:. a full sized muscle car that can carry 5 full sized adults fairly comfortably, and look and perform well while doing so. My largest concern is if it's priced higher than the mid $60's, which is GT500 territory. I think it will put it out of reach for many of us who would consider trading up out of our SRT8's. Time will tell. |

What makes you so sure it will be slower than the GT500? I'd be willing to bet stock vs stock this Hellcat will win more races on the street and strip due to the 8-speed automatic. Look at what the bolt-on ZL1 automatic cars are running, the Hellcat will most likely start off with similar stock rwhp. It also has fully forged internals, a twin screw supercharger, it will beg for boost modifications. You also understand that the Hellcat will weigh approx. 2-3% more than the ZL1, and should have a significant hp advantage over it. I really think the days of lightweight muscle cars are over. Look at the drastic steps taken with the Z/28 and it still is in the 3800-3900 lb range. The new GT will most likely be gaining weight.

We are now living in the best time for Pony/Muscle Cars I thought going through the 80's and 90's and most of 2000's that we were long past the glory days of the factory Muscle Car, even the Vette was not the car is was back in the day. 69 427 Vette 70 442 W30 Cutlass, 70 Chevelle 454, Copo 427 Camaro, 70 Hemi Cuda, 70 Hemi Roadrunner have now all been upstaged by the current Camaro, Mustang and Challenger in 1/4mile and track performance. The Hellcat has continued that performance tradition of the big three.
A disaster wow I don't see it, I guess everything that is not a Chevy for you is junk can't see past your own dashboard I guess. I could point out some issues with all of these cars like weight, back seat room, trunk space the list could go on. |

The difference between the fastest ZL1 auto and manual times are: M6: 12.075 @ 120.01 MPH A6: 11.717 @ 117.61 MPH So while the ET is 3/10 lower, the trap is 3mph lower as well. Per your statement above, even if the ET's are close between the GT500 and Hellcat, the GT500 will take it from a roll every time due to P/W advantage. Quote:

GT500 manual 3891lbs ZL1 manual 4118lbs Hellcat manual* 4300-4400lbs That's 4.2-6.4% additional weight over the ZL1 and 9.5-11.6% additional weight over the GT500. To have the same power/weight ratio as the GT500, the Hellcat would have to put 660hp/ft-lbs TO THE GROUND which isn't happening. Quote:

Man, and here I was confident the hellcat was going to be pushing upper 600s HP range....of course it is still huge power...I just figured they were going to make everyone's jaws drop and go for 680 or 690 HP. lol
Looking forward to seeing the real deal.

I forget where I read it but now Dodge has claimed most powerful V8 engine ever installed in a Dodge. Some have taken that to mean more than the Vipers 640, but forget the Viper is a V10.
I'm still hopeful of a mid 600 crank hp rating. |

Last I read, I think they were claiming "more than 600HP and 575TQ"
Well that's all fine and dandy, but usually when manufacturers release these "more than" numbers, the final numbers usually end up being 10 - 20 more and that's it. So I'm hoping they buck that trend, and we see numbers well past that.
