GM botched recall

http://money.cnn.com/2014/06/05/news...html?hpt=hp_t1

Is it just me, or does it seem like the "big whigs" are trying to find a scapegoat for this issue. The GM engineers are some of the finest in the world. They do what management tells them to do. In order to cut costs they used cheaper parts in passenger cars as it seems evident here. It's sad people died due to this negligence.

I don't even want my wife driving her 10 cobalt because of the pending issue with the ignition. We call the GM dealership every 2 weeks to see if the part has come in to schedule an appointment, but they are back logged it seems. The thought of the airbags not working when the car shuts off is a terrible thing to stomach. Not only that I wonder if the steering wheel will lock, as well as the brakes.

I want to say car and driver tested this in their last issue - the conclusion was you lose the power assistance but can still control the car. I think the pressure in the brake line stayed even after the car shutoff for a bit. Not saying I would let my wife drive it either (I don't think she haas the strength to steer without power assistance) but i think the media has over sold the severity of this issue a bit

That's crazy not to mention the untruth. Saying that she was not aware of the ignition problem and somehow it took 11 years to find out?!? Such BS! She is not going to give up her multi million dollar salary by admitting fault. There is not enough money in the world to compensate me if one of my loved ones dies because of your mistake. Least of all if you had known of the problem beforehand.

A lot of the names I have heard were "unclassified".

Now many will land on their feet. Others will simply retire. I know of one person who has been mentioned in several articles that is already the VP of Engineering for HD. Not sure he is among the 15 fired or retired. He did retire a little while ago.

This is really more about the EGOs running rampant in GM as much as ignorance. GM has rewarded and promoted the highly EGOed Alpha males for years. A lot of "how will this affect me and my career" in that culture.
