Well unless the wax is black( and even then it will be a different shade) it will discolor the trim if left on. My suggestion is to go back around your car after you get done waxing and check the trim. It will be really easy to remove right after you wax. If you already have stains on your trim try all purpose cleaner and a nylon bristled brush.

Clean the trim first with some apc. Then apply your dressing of choice. Then wax. If you get some wax on the trim (we all do) it will wipe off without any issue.
