I can't stand crowded key rings anyway. The only thing on my Camaro key ring is a house key. My wifes van keys drive me crazy. At one point it was a wad about the size of a baseball in your hand. When it was in the ignition it would hang down about six inches (keep it clean people....). Every time it would swing around, it would hit my leg. I would get annoied with it on long drives and pull a bunch of the crap off and through it in the glove box. She would get mad at me and tell me to stop messing with her keys. Guess now I got justification for removing all that crap. It's a 2001 Chevy van.

Doesn't matter how many keys or junk I have on my key chain. I shouldn't have to worry about it. As stated above I too hate when there's to much junk on a key chain but when there is I shouldn't have to worry killing the engine.

You're just wearing out your ignition by hanging everything but the kitchen sink off your keys. There's no reason for it.

Did you read the full comment? I said I don't do it or like it but if I do I shouldn't have to worry about it.. Worst part is that they knew about this issue and let it roll?? Come on that's just BS. I work as a quality engineer at a tire manufacturing and this would shutdown our plant in a heart beat. Remember Firestone several years back?? Idk I just feel safety and quality should be their first thought. For employees and especially consumers.. Disappointing.

And I never said it was acceptable.

What I'm saying is anyone who does it is just going to end up with a worn out ignition. If ignition recall wasn't a problem, no you wouldn't have to worry about your engine shutting off but you'd end up with a problem at some point.

Again, no reason for it. It's just bad vehicle care for any car.

I have a difficult time with the "What? Really? When did that happen?" attitude from GM's lawyers. I get corporate hand-hiding after taking a cookie from the cookie jar tactics, but Mary needs to get in front of this one and fast. They probably shouldn't hide behind the "that was the OLD GM" excuse for this one. Many people don't differentiate the legal status when they start to write their check for a vehicle purchase. To many customers, GM is and always has been the same GM. Read any of their "history" and they're always proud to tout things like "back in 19xx this was a great thing for GM" as if GM was never split in the first place. But in court, they want you to believe GM of today never existed in the 19xx's. Which is it? An apology alone isn't going to cut it when people have died from a result of an alleged faulty vehicle. If they are at fault and responsible heads don't roll, then something's amiss.

It does raise a few questions. Where was Mary when all this was happening to begin with? Hasn't she been in the upper management arena for a good while now? If the reports are indeed true about this has been a known issue, I find it kind of difficult to believe this hasn't been discussed in engineering meetings once or twice while she was head of global engineering.

Maybe this may have them look at the keyless ignition system and have Pushbutton Starts on the new cars???

I believe in corporate responsibility as I do personal accountability. I just hope they do the right thing, even if it is not a "legal responsibility" thing. If people sense that, they'll be ok.

This sort of publicity just might lead them into that arena...if it's a safer alternative. I say that because in today's world, anything that is mechanical in nature and tied into an electrical system, there have to be safeguards in place to protect the consumer. You can push that button to start your car, but if there is a short somewhere, or a malfunction that could possibly lead to a fire, there will be more issues that will be created. There is nothing really foolproof as long as the human factor is involved IMO.

GM just needs to come up with a solution that will help their customers feel comfortable again and it appears that they are going to do it in a short time frame instead of in a long drawn out process.

I love GM I do I have two GM vehicles. Hell my 99 1500 runs like a champ other than the common rust under the door.. Right now, let's say I'm in the market to purchase a vehicle and this news pops up. Guess what I'm going elsewhere. Especially knowing that "Upper Management" knew about the issue. I honestly believe this is going to kill their sales. It has too. I just hope its going to be fixable..

2012 Vehicle Recalls by Manufacturer
This analysis should not be interpreted as an indication of what NHTSA thinks of any particular manufacturer or
its products. Since these summary numbers do not factor in or weight averages based on production, the largest
OEMs tend to top the list each year. These tallies are not used to evaluate manufacturers or to evaluate which
recalls the agency may need to investigate or monitor. There are a host of reasons why a manufacturer could have
more or fewer recalls in a given year or over time – including, but not limited to, the introduction of new
technology, its barometer for measuring risk, which could be more conservative or liberal as contrasted to other
manufacturers or the industry as a whole, or other variables.

Recalls happen, but what leads up to the recall is where the consumer gets a bad impression of a company.
Discover a problem, get with the NHTSA, issue recall and fix problem....little negative publicity.

Discover a problem, do nothing, hide problem, blame customer, get hauled kicking and screaming into a recall.....bad publicity, legal woes, and $1B to the gov for fighting.

GM seems to be in example two ( Like Toyota was) and needs to get the brakes on before this starts down that nasty slope.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/...A3F0VR20140416

I guess they'll do the Toyota thing and gamble people will be really pissed, they'll lose tons of cash because buyers won't buy, your GM cars might be worth piss on trade-in...but they won't care. They'll come back again.

So, please GM. I love you and everything, but if you come out with a 50th anniversary anything before the next 45 years are up (when the "new" GM is actually 50), you'll be just as big of a hypocrite as the government that fed you. Sometimes even the ones you love do really stupid things. And I'm guessing the courts will allow it.

You all with 45th anniversary Camaros...according to GM lawyers, you're living a legal lie. Those that are divorced might get this one...I just recently celebrated my 28th anniversary with my first wife...oh, wait, I divorced her in 1991. Does that make any sense to keep celebrating an anniversary when legally we're not married anymore?
