They could call it a Chevette for all I care, when something looks and performs that good a name is just a name....

interesting how it doesn't have the functional rear fender vents. Granted, it does have the side vent that come with past z06's, just figured you can't have enough cool air. Unless it was counter-productive with the side vent.

Wouldn't be the first time when a successor to a badge was nothing like the one that came before it.... They can redefine the badge if they want to.... It happens all the time.

It makes no sense to redefine a popular badge when there is one you can use that fits the car fine.

Then it will really piss you off that the Z06 option has been "available" to order as a convertible before.

Are you talking about the GMMG Z06 convertible?

5th paragraph down

http://www.corvettemuseum.org/specs/...6History.shtml

Granted I think only one person opted for this absurd setup in 1963, but I think you could have ordered one with a smaller gas tank.

And I believe this is the car.

Edit: Hell, I just noticed it is even mentioned in the original post

Fair enough.

In my opinion, this should have been the ZR1. You can disagree all you want and that's fine with me.

Remember when we had many years of watered down Z28s?

That's fine, but I do think it's an important addition to the lineup. There's a lot of super cars out there that can drop their tops. Corvette needs to stay on the list of options for people that have the money to buy such things. Maybe nobody will order this, (which I highly doubt) but at the very least GM has given them the option. And I think it will sell.

That's a different situation. They returned the badge to its origin.

So what about those that were not?
I think its more model position in the performance ladder than a traditional design of the model that wears the badge.
Its leaving room for a faster, more powerful model later to wear the ZR1 badge in the future...
If they had named this ZR1 there wouldn't be room for another higher performance model.
Yet they still have room between the Stingray and Z06 for a Grand Sport model.

I'm not saying they shouldn't build a halo Corvette that can have an automatic transmission and a convertible top, I just don't understand calling it a Z06.
