Question tint ticket

I have 15% tints on my passenger and driver window, I live in a city in connecticut, and small stuff like this usually gets disregarded (legal is 30% in connecticut) here's my story

I pulled out of my street, see cops coming the opposite direction, I then see them turn all the way around and go in my direction and come behind me. They pull me over, I was going the speed limit and everything. Both cops approach the driver and passenger window. Cop on the driver said to open the window on the passenger side so his partner could hear, so I just cracked it open about 1/4 of the way. They hated that, he asked me if I was "trying to be cute" but if he was truly just trying to listen that shouldn't of been a problem....anyways they pulled me over because they said they "smelled marijuana in the area" (which by the way is only a ticket if under a certain amount in Connecticut, since it is decriminalized) They then told me to step out of the car, then continued to give me a ticket for my tints. The cop then said if I rolled my window down all the way he wouldn't of gave me a ticket. I couldn't believe it, I also have NO record of any past criminal history... Were they stereotyping a 22 year old in a 40k car? Anyways is there anyway to fight this?

Your tint is not legal, if that is what they ticketed you for what is there to fight?
If you get your tint changed to be legal and have proof you did they will probably dismiss the ticket.

Depends on how much the ticket is. You could win if you do decide to fight it if the law is 30% and you having half that. You weren't speeding, they didn't find any marijuana I hope. But sometimes fighting it is more expensive than going to the driving school to get out of it..(if you guys have it over there).

to fight it all you have to do is go to court they call you up and you just speak to someone and of course they didn't find marijuana I think they were just saying that for a reason to pull me over...been seeing them pull over TONS these past 2 weeks maybe there is no such thing as quotas but they are definitely trying to make some money, I've never seen it like this....why would they mess with me when they see I have no record

lol. he asked you to roll down the window and you cracked it. you were being a smart ass and paid for it. use some sense next time and at a minimum, be respectful. anyhow, it's not a moving violation so it won't effect your record. just pay it.

and by the way, the state may have decriminalized pot, but it's still a federal crime to use or posses it.

First thing you do when you get pulled over is put all the windows down and place both hands on the steering wheel so they can be seen.

Actually I'm pretty sure you have to be at 20% or even 25% to be legal. I have 5% all around and roll em down quick whenever I see a cop. I also don't have a front plate which is illegal in CT but I care more about the looks of my car than if a cop can see my plate from the front. Unfortunetly man, and I HATE to say this, but when you get pulled over, just be respectful and play nice, even if them pulling you over isn't justified. I hate saying "yes sir, no sir" put I have played it both ways in the past and whenever I "exercise my rights" (slightly lower window) I usually walk away with a ticket. I have only gotten 3 ticket in CT but I fought everyone of them and got them thrown out. Especially now since you get the chance to write a letter explaining what happened!
Good luck!

yep, also, if at night you turn on the interior light. and turn the car off and never have your foot on the brake. the more comfortable you make them the more likely you are to get a warning instead of a ticket.

I got pulled over for tinted windows by a cop on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley CA right next to UC, Berkeley (the most liberal place on planet Earth).
As he was giving me the ticket, a guy walked by smoking a joint. The cop told the guy to take it indoors and continued writing me the ticket.
Priorities!

1st-Not sure about Ct but in Mass if you fight it, the court will want to see that the tint was removed or replaced with legal tint.
2nd-Police deal with $hitheads constantly-your attitude often dictates the outcome. Attention to detail and common sense is a rare commodity these days -roll the window down means roll the window down.
I am not saying you were playing games but if you just cracked it to be a jerk then as the saying goes "Play stupid games, get stupid prizes"

Depending on the speeding ticket it could have greater penalties, like points on your license, higher insurance or even losing your license. I don't think anything like that will happen over a tint violation.

Agreed with all points. If they asked you to roll down the window and you just cracked it, that's being a smart ass. Should have had both windows rolled down as soon as you saw them approaching.
