Ford brought a knife to a gun fight imo. If the C6 is done right and dodge gets there act together on the challenger(updated interior, weight loss and lower pricing) i could see mustang falling to third spot in sales. Anyone in the market for a mustang 2013-14 are the ones you want.

Until the challenger gets its own platform, it will not be dropping any weight anytime soon. People are slowly getting tired of the retro look. You can tell by the updated camaro and the downward slide the sales of the challenger have been like. Until the challenger moves in a new direction, it'll always be stuck in that 3rd spot.

Honestly, from what everyone I've talked to (and my own personal opinion), the challenger's retro is the most loyal and still holds up well despite its longevity. To me, the interior and price are what is really keeping it down. It's the most expensive and without a doubt has the worst interior of the 3.

So the 15 is months from production, the 15 Challenger is nearing its reveal, and the 6th gen Camaro is still a seedling, and the fight is over?

Damn you Ford for being so shortsighted. ..

Pretty hilarious about the weight gain. So many Ford fans were having a wet dream over on the Ford forums about how much weight it's going to lose. However if it's is going to be very close to the same size, yet gain IRS I just don't see how you're going to be losing a lot of weight. Unless exotic materials were going to be used, but then of course the price would go up.

I know you people love to crap all over the Mustang, but when you do could you actually use real information?

Nobody currently knows the exact specs, (other than engine size and wheelbase), so I really doubt Edmunds knew them 3 months ago.

Also, Edmunds is a laughingstock in the car community, and is known to publish less-than-accurate information.

Again, can someone point me to where straight from Ford, they said the car was going to lose weight?

I remember the rumor mills stating it, I remember a lot of sites posting 200# weight loss, I for the life of me can not remember Ford ever saying it directly.

I found one article that said "insider sources say mustang to lose 400#"...but it also said it would be 15 inches shorter too and we know how that turned out.

Because if Ford never sated it outright I don't see it as a fail. They came right out and said the 15 F-150 can be up to 700 pounds lighter, I don't remember them ever saying anything officially on Mustang weight

Looking at comparison tests, I'm seeing a weight difference ranging between 200-300 lbs

I tend to agree with you there, the new 15 Stang looks a little "Celica-ish".
Maybe it's because I'm in the younger group, but the 15 Mustang has grown on me. At first I wasn't sure I liked it, since it didn't look as aggressive as the 13-14, but I like it now. I bought a 14 Camaro without loving the rear, so the 15 Mustang's rear isn't a killer. Does it look too exotic, as if euro, definitely, but it's still sexy( in that she's got on a good bit of make up and looks decent without any makeup on kind of way)

Ford's new-for-2015 Mustang is months away from hitting the road, but already the automaker is hyping up its ponycar's improved performance.

Speaking with Automotive.com, Ford representative Brian Cotter indicated that the standard Mustang GT will best the outgoing track-oriented Boss 302 Laguna Seca. A short-run special edition, the Laguna Seca lapped its namesake race track - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California - in a hair under 1:40.

The new Mustang GT, says Cotter, will lap the course in even less time. The site says that Ford benchmarked the Porsche 911 and BMW M3 when it was developing the car's on-track performance.

Ford has indicated that the new Mustang will weigh somewhere around 200 lbs. less than its predecessor, which will help its power-to-weight ratio. Although exact performance specifications haven't been announced, a small power boost for the brand's 5.0-liter V8-powered GT is expected.

What they dont say is whether or not the weight loss is with the use of the new 2.3 or with the 5.0? Even with the weight loss coming strictly from the use of the 2.3L, the 5.0 is only about 100 lbs heavier so to me it seems the GT should see a minimum of 100 lbs lost.

Thank you, that is not 400 but it is hinted by Ford for 200 pounds lost.

Doesnt exactly say GT, its awfully vague.

You're welcome.
I'm pretty sure everyone knew that the lighter and more powerful GT500 would win in a drag race. He wasn't trying to say the ZL1 is better in every way or anything, just that strange things have happened. I know there's a lot of ridiculous fanboyism here sometimes, but not everything comparing the two cars is.

Either way, every bit of info in this thread is speculation until the mustang specs are officially released. Speaking of which, when the heck are they going to let the specs out? I've said this before and I'll say it again: The people who are fanboys of a certain model are stupid because competition fuels the market. The better that mustang is, the better GM will have to make the camaro and the better Dodge should make the Challenger (or cuda if they make that rumored switch). You don't have to like them equally, but you should root for them equally. At the end of the day .

Thanks. I knew it would stir up some trouble.

I did give the stang some credit for having 662 HP. I figured the drag race superiority was a given.
