GM Recalls

I wonder how bad these recalls are going to hurt GM? Also I wonder when all the jokes are going to coming out?

The GM recalls are unacceptable. If I were Mary Barra, heads would be rolling out the door one after another. I'll leave it at that.

With that being said, this has been a bad year all around for recalls and it's only March. Toyota's basically doing one every week.

Yea , Toyotas is real bad! especially their pedal getting stuck problem! At least GMs isn't life threatening like Toyota's because recalls will always be around!

Think again.

Last month's switch recall of 1.62 million vehicles worldwide has triggered federal investigations into why GM knew of a switch problem as early as 2001 but recalled the cars only last month. Twelve deaths and 31 crashes have been linked to the switch recall.

The bean counters always figure into what's an acceptable "loss" level when an issue creeps up as opposed to going to a full blown investigation and implement a cause and corrective action that could cost the company millions of dollars and lost time in production and sales in developing and producing a fix. Most of the time it works to their advantage, but there are times when it doesn't and thus they are probably going to spend more in order to stave off the bad publicity. With the NHTSA being involved as far back as 2006 IIRC, this also raises some eyebrows as to why they didn't push to have GM come up with a resolution sooner. Very sad when these situations occur and result in loss of life.

12 people to be exact. I'm not sure over how long a period as I missed that information as I was listening to the news report.

Yep, Ford has had their share too this year already. IIRC it was some 30,000 Edge's with the 2.0 Ecoboost had a fuel line problem or something.

Has not been a good start for the automakers with recalls

This worries me on several levels but most pointedly for us, I remember at some point reading in a thread some similar problems with Camaros & they don't seem to have been included in the recalls at this point. I remember because after reading on the thread in question & immediately went & took everything off my Camaro key ring. And no, I have not as yet tried to look for the thread. There has been too much else going on for me right now to have the time to do so.
