Anyone complaining about "Poolside" ELR ad should read this.

Here is a blog post on the subject from a pro-GM news blog, not unlike GM Authority or Autoblog.

Anyhow, the Cadillac ELR is a green car oriented toward rich people. Sure enough, the ad talks about being rich and having cool toys. I don't see the problem, but apparently some people are easily offended.

Article is by General Overdrive. Discuss.

It's a Cadillac. It's a luxury car. Who buys luxury cars? WEALTHY PEOPLE. Duh.

The controversy behind this ad is just dumb. Yes it's arrogant and elitist, but it's also an ad for arguably the only legitimate major American luxury car brand. You don't see BMW making ads geared towards the middle class.

Haha well that's society for you. Instead of someone being jealous of another persons wealth they just get offended instead.

If you earned the money, you have the right to spend it on things you want.

While I agree the commercial is a bit distasteful for any parties (wealthy or not so wealthy) involved, I think people getting offended is offensive itself. These sound like the kind of people who vandalize nicer cars (like Camaros for instance) because they're too damn slow to realize the Camaro owner isn't trying to stick it to the less fortunate, it's just a matter of enjoying a car.

So, no. I think Cadillac is in their right to produce a commercial catering to the people who will be buying the car. You're not driving to your job as a cashier each day at McDs in a damn ELR unless you make really bad choices with your life or have a family that for some reason buys you one.

Cadillac better be careful or all those so called poor and sanctimonious people they are insulting wont by there cars. Oh wait a second that's right that cant afford them anyways. Carry on Cadillac on people that are insulted were people who can afford or wouldn't buy one because they are in line for a Prius or Tesla because they are saving the world.

Very well—in that case, people will complain about everything online.

The ad would've made more sense if it was advertising the Escalade or the Elmiraj.

But ELR costs $75k and until the flagship goes into production, it's basically Cadillac's halo vehicle.

My big complaint is the statement about leaving the keys in the car on the moon. China just sent the Jade Rabbit there so the nobody or no one else is going to moon comment is now simply ignorant of the world. However, a guy at work said noBODY and that is technically correct................I guess.

Pretentious yes, but there is also the "we're Americans and we work our a$$es off to get ahead here" spirit to it. I think the complainers are a result of the current bashing of those that have money syndrome.

If a remote controlled car counts in this case, then they can change the advertisement to say that the USA has a fleet of cars on Mars with the keys in them. Nobody else has even one there.

I find it funny that people complain about the guy in the ad being arrogant, but it has been my experience that this guy is completely down to earth and friendly when compared to the majority of hybrid and electric car owners.

It's a great commercial, and it hits home with millions of Americans.
