Yeah, those should really be locked from further posts. I started going through that thread and luckily read the post that stated how long ago that thread had been started before I posted.

So I mentioned this once.

Another forum I'm a member of has a policy that you shouldn't post in a thread more than two or three months old. Instead start a new one and as an option if you want you can link to the old thread.

I like that idea. I don't like it when someone newish starts a thread and three or four people tell them it already exists as if they shouldn't have started the new thread. Especially when the thread is years old and pages upon pages of posts. Like car names, or owner's ages, things like that, I think a new one is okay every so often to give new members a chance to chime in.

ps. Hell know the kids shouldn't have gotten the car for homecoming five years ago.

I'd say most of the threads on this forum are threads that I do not care to read. So if I click on one and it has a subject not for me, I just move on. I just had a cup of coffee, it's sleeting outside, so I am posting here. What's the big deal, I don't get bothered by such little things.

I agree- If your not interested, move on.
I just reread the "Official Summit White" thread last week started back in August of 2008 by Tran.
Those were the good old days imo and part of camaro5 history. Personally I enjoyed reading the
old posts about when everyone was waiting to order the delayed SW color, then seeing the first
photos, and then reading about them being delivered, etc.
Again, If you have better things to do, go for it.

actually.....there are some threads that although they are old......they have good info, and when a new member finds them, and it addresses their specific issue or problem....why not post in it? after all....their maybe another new or newer member that may have the same issue and they too will find their answer, or realize that they too have an issue. believe it or not.....its happened to me.....when I just happened, by accident, to come across the PDIM thread, that then was a year old.....it was started in July of '09.....and is still active today.....

People that bump them usually fall into 1 of 3 categories:

1) they have successfully used the search feature and are continuing a discussion. This should be encouraged, not discouraged.
2) are intentionally bumping old threads because they find it funny -in which case, I'll usually delete their post (unless some real discussion happens to follow the bump)
3) are spammers (they tend to have less than 5 posts, have odd user info (ex, Drives: male), and copy a post from earlier in the thread). These people are banned & their posts are deleted. However, if someone stumbles upon the thread & comments on it, it will end up looking like they bumped it after we delete the spam.

All that said, I don't see a problem with old threads being re-activated. If its a relevant discussion, who cares how old the thread is? If the info is clearly out of date, the thread usually dies again in short order.

If they want to "continue the conversation", I much prefer they start a thread to do so and provide a link to the original thread.

Depends on the subject and to whether the material is dated or no longer accurate.
