The cost of a good insurance company can only be measured when something goes wrong. Thats when most advantages of intital cost flies out of the window and their going to try to get out of everything possible. I used to have a big name insurer who pulled this on a house claim. Granted it has become much worse in the last 10 years, companies who used to be pretty good now have policies that border on theft when you file a claim.

It has a lot less to do with your driving record and a lot more to do with where you live. Comparing rates in anything other than the same town is absurd.

And $2000 is light. It's going to cost me well over $6K per year per child to insure my kids when they turn 17 on a basic economy car. If they were growing up where I grew up, it would easily cost double that.

I no longer haves State Farm but I saw a $20/Month increase on Geico. I was told it was due to new data received on the Camaro SS. I am 29 with a clean record, no claims, and excellent credit. Paying $760 FC on two vehicles. $300k/$100k, UIM/UIP and $1000 deductibles.

Camaro5,

Just wanted to share with you all that OnStar does partner with State farm to provide insurance discounts. If you have an active OnStar subscription, contact your State Farm insurance agent for further details. I hope this helps.

I'm 20 years old, i've had my 1lt 2013 camaro since I've been 20, I was paying 123 a month for insurance. I got a ticket, went to driving school online, now i'm paying 113 a month, No idea why but it's fine with me, I had good student discount on there as well as well as a 500 dollar deductible. I'm happy with my state farm insurance, I'm not happy with the agents down the street so I take an extra 5 mile stretch to the next office.

The Onstar insurance through state farm is something I'm not a fan of, not to banter the company but the discount rates are horrible if you drive a lot. The more you drive, the less your discount will be. Which is stupid...

Here's what your discount percentage would be if you decided to link up Onstar and Statefarm, I suppose it can't hurt if you have onstar for a year and not paying for it, but if you're going to start paying for onstar just to get a discount think twice, you might end up paying more.

The reason I'm pissed at my agency down the road is every time I ask them a question they answer it from a random answer they pull out of their asses, insurance quotes they give me a ball park number, even when I asked if they gave discounts for having onstar they said "no we don't pair with onstar"

SO ya, here's your discount chart.

Hate on me if you want, this is strictly just an opinion.

I agree. The OnStar + State Farm discount is likely a scam sham. Since the wife wants it in her Caddy and I've got State Farm, I enrolled. Going up $50 over the last 3 years every 6 months and the car keeps getting older kinda makes me wonder how many CTS wagons are getting banged up.

Issue is, it's a 6-month LAG factor with the program, so you won't even see any discount until the next time you renew. Because they have to keep tabs of your mileage, so I get that. But if it DOESN'T go down next renewal period, I'm dis-enrolling and going with the stated low-mile discount.

If you ask State Farm directly about the low-mile discount, they'll enroll you for that right away, no waiting. I got that on the 2010 SS already, and I don't have OnStar for that car anymore.

Not sure if it's worth it or not- yet. Time will tell. If they send you a rebate check for that percentage, then it might be a true percentage. But they never said that's what they'd do.

I still think it's more of a scam because State Farm rates were jacked up on all my vehicles about 5% when I renewed in January, so there goes your discount for signing up right there. Plus, they'll likely just jack it up 10%, claim that repair costs are going up, then charge you "less", which means they're still making more money than they should. Probably a bait and switch. Or that ACA needs to get paid for...

State Farm since 1984. I pay $138 a month for my '13 Camaro, my '10 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, and my Homeowner's insurance. No other insurance company can come close - I check now and then.
OP - at 19, you are going to pay the max. Also, remember, it's not personal. You have a good driving record, but it's a short one, and rate are based on your age group and gender for your particulare area. Statistics say you fit into a high risk group so you pay a lot. If you are confident in your driving skills, consider raising your deductibles much higher - this will help some.

In the past 6 months, my total monthly payment has gone DOWN $8. Also, I cancelled my On-Star thing with State Farm. My agent said it wasn't really worth much and YES... they could monitor you driving habits anytime they want.

not a scam, but with onstar you allow them to see your driving habits, excessive speed, hard stops, etc, not just mileage, so you are basically telling on yourself..

same as that progressive snap shot deal.

I have the mileage discount with State Farm, simply requires me to log in to their website and record the vehicle mileage every 6 months, if I above the max miles for the discount, the discount gets removed and the rate goes up.

Currently paying $100 a month through USAA on my 2LT, first renewal, no accidents, been driving since 16. I'm 22 now.

My folks have told me the hit is kind of guaranteed no matter what until 25. I have the good student discount, Onstar, safe driving etc. all that jazz. USAA has been really good about dropping the price though. Prior to them I was paying an arm and a leg on a Cruze through Geico.

It maybe worth seeing what the savings would be if the OP went from a $500 deductible to $1000. Any savings is money in the pocket unless you have to make a claim. We haven't in many years and have saved quite a bit over time.

Try an independent insurance rep that can shop around for AA best rated companies. I found a good one called Harleysville Lake insurance in Indiana. Great service. You don't have to stick with the big names. Look for good ratings.

Interesting - but doesn't quite explain the BIG $7.00 a year discount I got with less that 10k miles a year. Looks like they stuck me in the 16k range for no good reason. But even at the 11% discount I should be getting, it's not worth keeping OnStar for it.

I have State Farm and my premiums have DECREASED over the past year, which is weird because I have gotten a ticket.
I didn't have a car or insurance in my name for several years before I bought my Camaro, so the lady at the office told me I was initially classed as a higher risk and that after 6mos, and then a year I was given a more preferential rate. Also I have my home and car bundled and own both outright with no financing so she said that lowers my risk too.

I pay $208/mo
