Propane shortage
Out here in the rural midwest we heat with propane. My supplier called today and said they won't be able to deliver any more until mid-march. I'll make it here at home, but my parents will be out at the end of february unless it warms up soon. Just a heads up to others. I'm sure we'll live. -1*F here right now.

I'm in NH, although I don't think there is a shortage up here. Propane is expensive these days though, I've cut way back in using it. If your parents aren't already taking measures to conserve, let them know what I have done. I only use cold water to do laundry, my windows suck, so I put plastic insulator kits on all the windows and sliding glass doors, I primarily use ceramic electric space heaters to heat my house. They are safer than the old style metal coil heaters and do a great job. Also use a humidifier, but don't let the relative humidity in the home go past 50%, that's when mold starts to grow. Never thought I'd see the day that electricity is a cheaper way to heat my house than propane. One other measure that I'm thinking of employing is some sort of timer on the hot water tank zone of my system. There's no need for it to keep the water hot all day long while I'm at work, I want to somehow only let it heat it up in the mornings before I take a shower and at night when I get home.

I have a Pelonis 5 Disc Ceramic Heater. the thing pumps out serious heat and I move it around with me in the house and heat the room im in and leave main heat down few extra degrees. Man this global warming is really Running up my a/c bill. LOL spend about 1/10th as much money cooling my house as i do heating it.

Natural gas from me and for my home so not that knowledgeable on propane home heating. Is there a way to bypass the main propane tank and get some refills or full 15lb tanks or bigger? I know it's not the best solution and could be expensive and may have to drive far to get but just a thought. Stay warm, we got out of Chicago on Saturday and now in Maui for about 2 weeks, I will try and bring some warmth back but no promises.

I feel bad for anyone on propane right now. Especially if you can't get it, but also because of its current price. I bought a house this August, fuel oil was it's only heat source, after about a month into winter I was burning 100 gallons a month, and at $3.96 a gallon I had to switch to electric. Cost me abouto $5,000 to do so for a plenum heater and new 200AMP meter sockets, but well worth it.
There's no way I'd be able to afford to heat my house on fuel oil or propane without fuel assistance. $400 a month is too much, my mortgage is only $550 a month.
