Please talk to your teenaged drivers
This was in today's Kingsport Times News, if you have teenaged drivers in your household talk to them, don't let something like this happen to them.
"CHURCH HILL — One teen remains in critical condition and another is facing charges after a horrific crash near Church Hill Wednesday afternoon in which a BMW went airborne, split a utility pole in half, and rolled several times. The accident occurred Wednesday at about 1:43 p.m. on Country Lane about a quarter mile east of the Fudges Chapel Road intersection. According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Brogan Jennings, 18, of Mount Carmel, was driving a 2006 BMW 330xi at a “very high rate of speed” eastbound on the narrow and curvy Country Lane. As the vehicle topped a hill, it went airborne and then landed back in the road, making several “gouge marks” on the roadway asphalt. The vehicle then reportedly exited the roadway to the right, where it struck a fence and then a utility pole before rolling several times. The car landed on its wheels in a horse pasture, but the passenger’s side of the roof had been caved in substantially. Both occupants were wearing seat belts, which probably saved their lives. The passenger, Cody Horton, 18, of Church Hill, was listed in critical condition Thursday at the Holston Valley Medical Center. As of Thursday evening Jennings was listed in good condition at HVMC. The broken utility pole, which holds a transformer that serves several area residences, is in the front yard of a mobile home where Marie Barnum lives with her boyfriend and daughter. Barnum told the Times-News Thursday the electricity was out for about six hours after the wreck. “You can’t go that fast down this little road,” Barnum said. “They went airborne at the bottom of the hill, and went through our fence and knocked our satellite dish down. They had to have been airborne when they hit the electric pole because it broke right in the middle.” Barnum added, “He (Jennings) told the officer it was his girlfriend’s car and he’d borrowed it. He (Jennings) was out walking around after the accident, but his friend was definitely hurt. I’m just glad no one lost their life.” Jennings was charged with speeding and no insurance."

Absolutely. I know when I was a kid, you'd pack a couple more kids in the car and we'd go absolutely nuts. I'm lucky to be here on many accounts.

There was an accident here in Vegas where some girls hurrying back to school after lunch lost control and their car was split in half by a light pole. Several of the girls were killed.
I think when my son gets his license next year, I'm going to take all the seats out of the minivan and let him drive it. It is hard to be too cool in a minivan.

^^ That isn't going to work if they're really going to try. You would have better luck getting a new car and have a tuner move the speed limiter down to about 55mph or get a 90's chevy pickup. they're limited to 85mph. we talk about getting a tune to move the speed limiter up, theres nothing that says it can't be lowered too.

I see it all the time
It isn't just about the high rate of speed as the in-attention and the superman, nothing can happen to me attitude. I always train my kids that when you are driving, you are driving, learn to tune out chatter in the cabin. Especially when you get into complicated situations.
Unfortunately when you are a passenger you are subject to the drivers abilities or lack there of. Two idiots pulled up next to my Camaro the other day with a from what I could hear a modified older firebird. Wanted to race down a busy street with all kinds of cross streets and very innocent people trying to go about there day. Even when I ignored them they burned out but since I wasn't racing he let up. No common sense. Sad to hear about those young people whose family will never enjoy their lives with them. Jim
