I think alot of it has to do with women usually being the one responsible for the "kid" things like driving them to school, practices, daycare etc. So minivans and large SUVs are more practical. Also, *some* girls don't like getting their hands dirty. LOL I have a suburban for kid toting. And now that my boys are teenagers, I also have more ME time. So, I bought my Camaro convertible. But I have always been a tomboy, my first Camaro was a 71 that I pulled out of a field and completely restored at age 19. Guess growing up on a farm and learning to work on engines (tractors, combines, farm trucks, etc) kind of enhanced that LOL

Statistically yes women don't buy them as much as guys, same with guns.
But it all depends on who you know. I know a girl that drives a 370z, another an SS Camaro, and another that has a Saleen Mustang. But most others around me drive trucks/suv's.

When I met my wife she has a 300ZX and I had a minivan (Single dad full time). My wife got the SS and I got the RS. Nuf Said. She can out drive most men. Also, she had guns and introduced me to them. For her 45th birthday she wanted two things, 45th Anniversary SS and a Smith and Wesson 460 XVR.
I guess I better start buying lottery tickets since I am the statistical anomaly.

I have a 2013 2LT/RS with manual tranny. I traded in a Nissan 350ZZR. Prior to that I had a Miata. I go for the fun factor more than the muscle.
My other vehicle is a 2013 GMC Sierra for those crappy days. I also have a CanAm Spyder and a Harley Sportster. Oh, and I'm trying to decide whether to renew the NRA membership for a couple years or lifetime. I do enjoy poking holes in paper!! |

I remember when I was pulling wrenches at the GM dealer . We had a customer who would buy a new Corvette every generation change . She also had a 65 Mustang GT that never saw the light of day. She would have an additional block heater installed and would order a service manual as well.

Statistically, women buy fewer performance cars than men do. A number of recent articles in various publications have marveled at this remarkable stat. This does not mean that there are not vast exceptions to the rule... just that a performance car on a lot is more likely to be purchased by a man than by a woman. The OP was questioning why this might be.
I think that males and females are both competitive, almost equally so, but in different ways. Females are competitive in the workplace, in social situations, and with their kiddos. Males are a little more caveman, and their competitive streak shines brightest with who is faster, stronger, louder, and can club the most mastadons. Since mastadons are very difficult to find these days, the men are left to prove their value as strong cavemen by placing themselves in a car that's faster, stronger, louder, so that they can improve their chances of mating with a one of the competitive females in the tribe. Yes... there are a thousand exceptions to every statistic... but that's my take on why guys lean towards performance cars more than the ladies do. |

In today's world, it seems like both women AND men are not buying high performance cars. Everyone is getting boring transportation appliances like Corolla's, Civic's, Prius', etc.

I was a single mom at 20 so I did everything to not look like a "mom". All my cars were 2 doors, though nothing special speed wise, at least they looked a little "sporty". At one point we had a jeep Cherokee, but I went and bought a 4 banger mustang a neighbour was selling. When my girls hit preteens, they would fight over sitting in the backseat as it was too squishy for them. So as reliable as the mustang was with over 450,000 kms, I bought a family car, corrolla. Hated that car, traded for a Mazda. As soon as my girls no longer needed me to chauffeur them as much, I bought my 2ss/rs m6 camaro. I have always been anti mini van, even though my fiancé has one.
Women who can turn a wrench on the cars are awesome, I suck at it, but do try. My friends don't understand me but that's ok. All are still running off to hockey, football and dance classes, I've got the freedom now at a young age to take some me time and a little money to play with. |
