Well that's good. I went through 4 xbox 360s because of that RROD and dealing with MS customer service was always a pain in my ass. The advance exchange is a muuuuuch better option. Sounds like they're taking care of peeps better this time around!

According to my local Best Buy there have been a lot of failures with the One. The first one that I bought had a broken controller so I brought the whole thing back and they had around 5 behind the counter that had to be exchanged.

That usually happens when something's blocking the cooling vents. I read it actually has way more cooling power than it would ever need, so if the fans are on high it's literally just to annoy you enough to move whatever's blocking the vents.

It did it in my basement and then I hooked it up to the computer monitor upstairs and it still does it. It's sitting in the middle of a desk with nothing around it. It almost sounds like a very fast ticking as if a wire is hitting the fan blades.

That's weird.

Only problem I've had so far is my controller randomly choosing not to vibrate. Might be low batteries though. I haven't seen any way of indicating that yet, by the way.

The new party system blows though.

Yeah no indicators for battery life. What's so bad about parties?

Having to turn on party chat when joining, sometimes the parties randomly drop, sometimes party chat randomly turns itself off. And no "Join Session in Progress" is really annoying for Forza too.

Sorting out the Xbox One's tricky social functions will be the priority focus of the console's first major update, Microsoft has revealed.

Speaking to Engadget at CES 2014, Xbox executive Marc Whitten explained the incoming update. "The feedback we've gotten is pretty valid; some of the social stuff is hidden or harder to use than it was on the Xbox 360. So you're gonna see us come out with an update where, well, we're going to fix those things."

Many of the Xbox One's social functions--achievements, friends lists, and, crucially, the party system--have been split into separate applications on the new console, as opposed to being baked in to the OS as they had been previously with the Xbox 360. While this allows for a clean and elegant interface, many users have reported that it makes using the social features cumbersome and fiddly.

"As a person who's been pretty involved in building Xbox Live for the last decade, I take it pretty seriously when people say it's harder to get into a party, and the defaults aren't right, and I don't like the model," continued Whitten.

"So what I'm trying to do with the team is kind of theme some stuff up. Let's take an update and really go through a big list of what we're hearing from customers, what we know is broken with the architecture, areas that we want to improve or complete. I think that's a theme you'll really see us push on--that Live experience."

Elsewhere in the interview, Whitten suggested that the ability to stream gameplay from the Xbox One might be a little ways off and that the company would talk more about the function at E3 2014.

This week Microsoft also announced that it sold 3 million Xbox One consoles in 2013.

I saw that the other day. Thank God.

Probably the dumbest thing ever is no notifications when friends sign on.

That really pisses me off. The PS4 doesn't do it as well and I can't understand why.

Right there with ya. It's a PITA to just check my achievements or even find out who's online. Maybe it's just cause I'm so familiar with the 360, but I find myself enjoying the "old-gen" experience moreso than the new Windows 8 themed XB1.

Can go straight to achievments by saying "Xbox go to achievements"..
