Anyone else excited about the new 2015 F150?

Man it is seriously a beautiful looking truck. Said to take alot of cues from the Concept Atlas. Already spyshots of it driving around too

Not really. Interested to see how far they raise the bar. But not excited. I'd still buy a silverado regardless of what they do. Now if I were still working at GM I would be very nervous.

The concept is awesome for sure. I can already see that nasty rake that manufacturers love to do for some dumb reason on the test mule though. I'm sure the production model will be toned down a lot. I could see them making the 2015 raptor more like the Atlas concept which would be great. I would be a buyer for sure.

The Atlas concept is nice but don't expect that sort of quality out of the production model. It'll have the cues, but replaces the metals on the grille with plastic and those awesome headlights with boring ones like the current models have and you'll start to see where my lack of enthusiasm comes from. It has potential, but until they show the production model I'll be a negative skeptic. Been burned too many times from hot looking concepts.

The rake is there so that when you put 2000 lbs in the back of the truck the nose isn't pointed at the sky.

The alternative would be to use insanely stiff rear springs so that a full load only compresses them maybe an inch or something ... but I don't think anyone would like that solution either.

I'm only interested in the weight savings and how Chevy will counter. I think I read they are using aluminum for the body panels except for the box saving between 600-800 lbs of weight. I don't think the new Silverado lost enough weight with the new 2014s. The new ford should get some pretty good gas mileage.

Now the 2014 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel gets me interested. I hope GM follows suit.

You do realize that if the F-150 loses 600 pounds they'll only just come in under Silverado?

If you look at the heaviest light duties from both brands...

Silverado Crew Cab Standard Box 6.2L V8 4WD: 5429 lbs
F-150 Super Crew 6.5ft Box 6.2L V8 4x4: 5904 lbs

If anything, I'm interested in seeing how successful the aluminum body panels will be.
Yes, a lighter truck is good for gas mileage and performance but....
- will the aluminum supply companies (Alcoa, etc.) be able to keep up with demand?
- will the aluminum panels be more vulnerable to damage (dings/dents)?
- is it more expensive to do body work on aluminum compared to steel? If so, how much more?

I'm more interested in the new Colorado, especially the diesel...

Ford already pushed back the launch date due to issues with the aluminum.
