I'm bummed that the new 5.0L is not getting direct injection.

E85 flex fuel capabilities like whats on the f150's 5.0L would also be a much welcome addition for us modifiers.

Getting what some are estimating at 435 HP or so from the port injected 5.0, I'd expect DI to show up no sooner than as a mid-cycle upgrade . . . possibly being held in reserve as a response to an LT1 6th gen Camaro.

It will be a good comparison. In regards to it being a tad quicker in a straightline than the 1LE, he states that the GT's performance will exceed the Boss. Presently a straightline race between a Boss and a 1LE would be amusing as the Boss has already run mid 12s bone stock and 11s with DRs, the 1LE is having difficulty getting into the 12s period.

Which is surprising considering the 3.91 rear end. MT tested the 1LE against the GT and they both got a 12.7 at 111

The reason for the some what poor 1/4 mile performance of the 1LE despite the 3.91 gears is that the gearing in the Tremec was optimized/selected for the road course. It is designed to run 2nd and 3rd gear through most of a road course. The final gearing on a 1LE works out to not be a steep as a regular SS. It has been said a million times that if the 1/4 mile is your thing get a Regular SS not a 1LE SS.

Personally I haven't been on a drag strip since HS. The road course is where my heart is.

Ford said in their press release that the crank was altered for higher rpm use. Even if they only pick up a bit of peak hp, if they can hold around that power for an extra 500rpm or so, that will have a big impact on straight line figures. It will be interesting to see how this car performs. It could be a disappointment or a total shocker, there just isn't enough information yet.

They had to be really strong to handle the high revving motor. The Boss motor can rev cleanly to 8,400 rpm when the factory rev limiter is bypassed.

I've seen people run well over 20psi, and surpass 1000hp on stock bottom end Boss Mustang's.

It's those rod's that allow you to throw on monster blower's like this and not have to worry about building your bottom end. Having these rods in the base S550 GT is pretty epic
I thought I'd share this smidgeon of insight into Manley SB Ford rods. I sure hope those super-duper sintered metallic ones are better.

Outstanding. How much boost (and for how long) was that engine asked to take?

Stock? Twin-Screw? TT? What octane tune? Would other stock rods have fared better under the same circumstances? So many questions.

Any rod can be bent/broken. Any rod.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the point of that picture was myself. Is this supposed to prove something?

Edit: Did that rod come out of those Camaro's in the background?...

I'm guessing something not nearly that impressive.

Judging by the apparent lack of piston damage, try a hydraulic-locked cylinder, which could happen on a totally stock motor. I-beam rods will bend, but they won't buckle like that.

Manley rods are Chinese forgings same as Eagle, Scat, Probe, and Callie's compstar line. You have to step up to Oliver, Carrillo, or Crower to get a premium USA forged rod. I do have one of those super-duper sintered metallic 5.0 rods out of a bone stock 5.0 that's broken in half, if I remember I'll take a pic of it when I go to the shop tomorrow and post it.

Who's talking about bone stock 5.0 rods?...

Are the rods in your bone stock 5.0 the same as the Boss mustang or 03-04 cobra rods that are being discussed? I'm just not seeing how this is relevant.

Let's see now, Reincarnated, you've been here for three days, signed up on a Camaro site to flap your "reincarnated" gums about a not-ready-for-primetime Mustang. You mention Manley rods like they're some extraordinary piece of unobtainium exceeded ONLY by "sintered metal" (translation - powdered) piece crafted from "sweepings off the foundry floor" . Then you see a picture of a MANLEY rod, get butt-hurt, and continue to mumble in myopic form... Is that about right?

Are you "Reincarnated" from some formerly-banned name/person? I hope you used a new IP address...
