I once went 24 over the limit (69 in a 45) and got a 6 point ticket in New York. Needless to say, I hired a lawyer and we beat the ticket outright. Best bet is to hire a lawyer. The ticket itself is not the problem, it's the spike in insurance costs, or them completely dropping you that causes problems

There is only 1% of people who don't speed and .9% of them are liars. Everybody speeds and/or commits some type of traffic violation. So just make sure your insurance is up to date, admit when your wrong, or pay an attorney $250 to get your $500 ticket reduced to $250. Have fun and drive as safe as possible.

lucky you don't live in VA. more than 20 over is reckless, so is any speed over 80.......you did both. 90 in a 45 and they most likely would have cited you with reckless endangerment, thrown you in jail, and towed your vehicle.

Absolutely correct, so when people are killing each other at 45, how would 90 be better?

At 90 I'm hoping the driver would be less distracted... not saying I agree with raising speed like that though.

Sent from the road.

Yeah, I would hope.

I'm not belting the guy to begin with, I've sped plenty of times and readily admit it, anyone who says they haven't on here is standing on a pedestal. Thing is no matter how good your reaction time is you can't predict the conditions of the road or the actions of the other drivers. You may not be distracted but what about the mom moving over a lane giving her kid something at the speed limit and not paying attention. Instances like that happen in the blink of an eye, no more can be done afterwards but to assign blame. It doesn't bring people back. Which, I go back to my main point:

He got caught.

It sucks.

Pay it, move on. It could have been a lot worse.

It is funny how some people need to cry over spilled milk. Granted I didn't read every single thread when I posted the last time. I just deduced from your initial post that you knew it was a 45 and everyone drives 80 even though "it is just like a highway". All roads no matter what it looks like have speed limits. If it was a 3 lane road or exit then it has a lot of traffic on it. The reason the law enforcement officer nabbed you was you were probably weaving in and out of traffic, or you were moving faster than the other vehicles around you.

Also, must be nice to live in a state where the officer lets you get away with 20 to 30 MPH over and certain roads. All I can say is in this state 40 mph over the limit I think is close to a $500 fine.

Dean.

I'd rather have a competent person on the road beside me doing 90 than some others doing 45. Don't know the details. OP said it was pitch black, so thinking no one around, except for po-po.

To the OP, yes it sucks, everyone speeds to some extent, you just got caught. Sick feeling in the stomach goes along with it. Be honest and look for mistakes made by the police to counter their credibility. Get an attorney. I got out of a vascar ticket for going 52 in a 35. Road opened up into an additional lane, nothing around and looked like a highway. I was heading out of the jurisdiction when he clocked me, 200 ft till the municipality line. A money racket. I went back to the area, made some notes and formulated a plan to fight it myself. Fine was only $150ish, but carried 4 points. The area was going to be under construction, all speed limit signs were covered and no work speed limit signs in place. Wrong time on ticket and some other things. Trial was easy, officer never showed.

I wasn't weaving in out of traffic. There wasn't even one car around me. but heres a pic of the road that runs parallel to the highway probably a mile or so after the exact point I got pulled over. Its freshly paved and when theres no cars around please tell me how you don't think about gunning it?

Does not matter if it a 4,v6,v8,v12,v16,or even a v100. If the speed limit is 60 you look at the speedometer to make sure you are doing 60. Owning a V8 does mean you have to speed. They have drags strips and road couses for that type of driving.

You could be right. I have gotten about 4 of not paying attention speeding tickets in 40+ years of driving. They usually was 10 over but 44 no dam way.
