I'm jealous of you guys. I have no time for any of my hobbies anymore. My guitar has been in its case for 8 months, I haven't played a video game in well over a year, and I didn't even get to play a single round of golf since July.

I need to find time for that stuff. Letting off steam is important.

Acoustic or electric? I miss playing my guitar as well as my drum set.

It's beginning to get like that for me. Freshman and sophomore year of college were a breeze to me but now junior year is starting to get kind of challenging. I still have time to do what I want but it's not like it was during my first 2 years. I imagine working will only be worse for free time

Its far worse once you get a 8-5. Your weekdays are gone. When I worked for myself I'd often have a few hours here or there during the day. Not so anymore.

Then once I get home, I go to the gym. Then it's 7. Then dinner, maybe a show or two on TV and bed. Rinse and repeat. It's a mundane existence.

Weekends I try to spend with my girlfriend. Not a lot of 'me' time.

Regular large paychecks are nice though. All balances out.

Hell yea, definitely know that once I get a regular job weekdays are a wash. Definitely sucks when you put it like that the paycheck is probably the nice thing though

It's not so much the paycheck as it is the regularity of pay. I know exactly how much I'll have.

Before, I made good money detailing, but it might be a really good week, then a couple slow ones.

The upside is also much greater for me now than it was before.

That definitely makes sense. Would you say that your masters helped you? I believe I remember saying you had a masters or am I wrong?

Two actually. I'd say they helped me get a job. It's almost a requirement nowadays. Everyone has a bachelor's.

But, I believe that all college is useless once you actually have your job. Very little knowledge transfer occurs in American universities, especially public ones. I personally believe the whole system is the biggest scam and fallacy in America today, but let's not go down that path again.

Its a necessary expense these days. $40k+ for those extra lines on your résumé. You're just showing your employer you took the time and effort to invest in yourself.

Yea, I remember you saying you had 2. Economics and Finance right?

I honestly fully agree with you. I don't see the point to college since I've learned more at internships than in class anyway. But I know it's necessary to go through it. It's just I'm considering just to keep going and getting that master's degree after I attain my CPA certification.

Yes econ and finance.

CPA will never hurt you. Managers get chubs when they hear CPA.

What's your field/goal job?

Yea, the CPA is a definite. I'll be pursuing that for sure.

At this point I'm not that sure. I have a friend who has secured me an internship at USAA since the corporate headquarters are here in San Antonio. So I'll be doing that. But I will also be pursuing a corporate accounting internship to at least experience that. I think I may pursue an internship with ATKG, a corporate tax accounting firm local to here as well. I used to think auditing was the way to go but now I'm not so sure. Not sure if I want to go into an environment in which they don't even want you in the first place. Especially since auditing is usually thought of as "people there to prove you're wrong"

Pretty much how it is for me. I do 8-6 but it's a mix of work and school for me, I usually work around 18-20 hours a week and then the rest is school. Once I get home around 6:30 I attempt to workout and then its dinner and homework time.

The one thing I'd tell anybody going into a financial or related field is make sure your Excel skills are dead nuts solid. If you have to use a mouse, period, you're not there.

You'd be amazed how few people know the basic skills in the most popular application in the business world. If you are an excel wizard, you'll turn heads because you'll be able to do the work 100x faster and more accurately.

That's how I made the name for myself at my company. Within three months, I'm already being offered a new position with a 50% pay increase. Nobody at the company can do what I can do, in no small part because of my Excel skills.

I know it sounds simple, but it truly makes you far more valuable. People like you and I may not have 15 years experience, but I'm already running circles around those people because I use technology to solve business problems.

If you ever have any questions in Excel or what's the best way to do something, don't hesitate to hit me up.

Excel is one of those programs that is always underestimated, there is so much it can do and almost everyone (including myself) that uses it does not know how to use the program efficiently.

On a complete side note do you by any chance know Python?
