Will the Z51 Best the Z/28 at the Ring?
Will the Z51 Best the Z/28 at the Ring?
And what do you think the Z51's Ring time will be?

I think it will be very close. My prediction is 7:34 to 7:37 for the C7.

Remember GM mentioned the Z/28 pulled a 7:31 in dry conditions. Unfortunately it was not recorded per Ring rules.

I think they said it "could" be 6 seconds faster in the dry but I don't think they had a 6 second faster run. Regardless, I don't expect to see the C7 in 7:31 territory. That is insanely fast and something the Z28 would be able to accomplish given its pure track focus and sticky, sticky r-comp tires.

Yeah but the Z is built for racing....My C7 is built for everyday and touring and racing.....just think they're a difference......kind of like a Viper esp in the early days

Will they even run it at the Ring? A Z06 or ZR1 version maybe....not sure if they will bring a base model over there.

Yes. The Z51 has already been spotted over there.

I don't think the Stingray will beat the Z/28 but it will post an impressive time somewhere around 7:40.

The Z/28 is one-dimensional... perfect and dedicated for HPDE/track junkies and occassional driving (car shows, collectors, etc.). The C7 is still a great bang for the buck esp. when compared to the Z/28. I like it too but this is clearly apples to oranges... or more like bananas to watermelons.

Use the Force

Given the C7's ability to literally 'fly' over the track, I am predicting a 01:58:00 ring time. Without the friction of the tires actually being on the track and scrubbing off speed plus the low cd of the bodywork, I feel confident with my estimation.
OK, so I might be off target a tiny bit. With the C7 being a few hundred pounds lighter but 50 less HP, I also agree it will be close but still behind the Z28 by a few seconds. However, the next C7 Z06 with a few hundred pounds less than the Z28 and with the same or more HP will be a totally different vehicle. Then the question will be how close will the price of the Z28 be to the price of the C7 Z06?
