Factory Tour Yesterday!!
My friend took the factory tour yesterday, I learned some interesting facts, first one was that it takes 3 and half days to build each stingray, I just assumed it only took one day. They are producing 137 stingrays a day. She also noted that there were some blade sliver stingrays that had different color fenders on them in order to complete their production; this seemed odd to me that they would produce a car just to take parts off and replace it with the correct color after the fact. I would think this might cause a color match issue especially with silver, but they must know what they’re doing, my order is silver and hopefully I get it all in silver, Lol. And it only cost 7 dollars to take the tour, that’s so cheap why charge anything, anyway that’s defiantly on my bucket list when I get my stingray in a couple of weeks I hope.

I have been on the tour 3x (twice for the C6 and once for the C5) and the fender replacement is nothing new. They have been doing that as SOP. What did look new (from the factory video) was now cars of same color are in batches. That's not how it used to be. Also, 137 is more than when I was there for the C6; it was 114 then. Seems about the same time on the line as before as well. Thanks for the update.

To follow up further on the fender replacement. When I first saw it I was like you, WHAT?? On on tour it was 'slow' and I got to talking to someone on the line (not a worker but they will talk to you sometime as well) about this.
He told me that seeing that is a very good thing actually! Means they caught a sub-standard fender (paint, fit, mold imperfection etc.) and the replacement is very easy (lol...to them I'm sure it is). The reason is that it would literally stop the line to change it due to the way parts are allocated. So bolt something on and keep the line moving (even as slow as that line moves...it does not stop). One car actually had almost all different color body parts...looked cool as all get up. Asked if I could buy one like that....then after a huge grin and smile he said.......... NO! |

We toured the factory Thursday 10/17. The production goal that day was 152 but they were 5 cars behind by 10 am. The back lot looked almost full.
Saw the same thing with the scrap fenders installed on the machine silver cars. The correct fenders were being back at the paint shop and will be re-installed later. No big deal. |
