Censorship is political, wouldn't you agree?

I don't get it. if it's a subforum, it means that if you don't want to read about it, then you don't have to click on that particular subforum. like the sports section in OT. you don't want to read about sports, don't click the subforum.

also, the report function helps with "spillage".

I'm really indifferent. Just pointing out that it is possible.

No, it really isn't.

Seeing as I am a part of a car forum, with a politics section, and politics doesn't get talked about outside of said section...since at least 2003, I would beg to differ...

edit: and that's a fact. so it's pretty ridiculous of you to think it's not.

We've tried it twice on GMI now. Both attempts ended in disaster. The mods tried it here and that didn't work out well either.

This site has proved it can't handle politics so just leave it at that.

Well, maybe that's more indicative of the type of people in these particular forums, than the other forum i'm in. It's still possible with strict rules, was all I was getting at.

and just to go further in the people i'm talking about, the other forum i'm in, are mostly of teenagers and twenty something's because of the car it's made around. Those type of people, although can get feisty when it comes to politics, they can easily be swayed, or just ignore people, if they get on their nerves, and not move the topic out of the subforum.

People on this site and probably GMI are of the older crowd. People stuck in their own views. Sort of a tunnel vision attitude. Their view is right, and no other can change that. Which then usually leads to fighting, name calling, etc. which is pretty sad.

Camaro5 said they tried back in 2008 or 2009? There was probably a lot of other things they cared about, than a political section. lol Right now, it's pretty slow, it seems. Other than trying to get fest going, at least...

C5 is my refuge & I like it like that.
Well if we were allowed to talk about politics, I wanted to start a thread that basically said "Has anyone else just turned off the news?" Because I did, I had enough of.

I'd be all for a politics section. And as someone else suggested put a disclaimer on it and let people discuss the issues without moderation. Forum members currently slip in political or religous statements here and there. There's one guy on here who's signature reads something like: We have a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem. After the Newtown Conn. tragedy someone started a thread with a poem about how the children killed were now home with God, and the gun section blew up with people looking for weapons and ammo because of feared legislation changes. People will find a way to slip in religion or politics on C5, like it or not. So why not contain it in a specific sub-forum?

1. Without moderation? That's not gonna happen. I'm not trying to say that your idea is a bad one, I'm just saying that that would turn bad QUICK.

2. Arguements about Obama, Obamacare, GOP, Boehner, etc is TOTALLY different than mourning the tragic loss of a ton of innocent school children. They're two very different things that can't be compared.

3. Because we've tried that. It's been said already a couple times in this thread alone. It simple does not work. People spill it into other sections. Before you know it, this Camaro forum will become a political forum. It's already bad enough that Camaro5 has lost it's family feel, adding politics to that fire will just destroy what good Camaro5 has left.

As I said before, we're here to moderate a CAR forum, not a POLITICAL forum. If it works somewhere else, great. It doesn't seem to work here.

No, I wouldn't. We have 'censored' people who come here to talk soley about Mustangs, or trash GM, or promote their website, or post inappropriate pictures, or 'sell' whatever garbage that spammers come here with. None of that is political in any way. And its all done in order to keep the site clean and the atmosphere as friendly as possible.

Different people are different people. By which I mean that just because things happen one way for one group doesn't mean that another can do the same thing in the same way & have it all work out. Anything else would seem rather ridiculous to me. Just think back to whenever you've changed jobs, or schools, or had to meet the family of a loved one. Old group & new group can, objectively, be quite similar. But the group dynamics & social norms can be very different. Because different people are different.

Because, for whatever reason, it simply does not stay contained to that one little section.

I agree. The point I was trying to make is just that religion and politics do get brought up... using that as an example was probably too extreme on my part.

I imagine it's no easy job moderating this forum and you guys do a great job. My thinking was just that instead of having to deal with the little hints at peoples view points you just open it up in a specific section and tell people to keep it there. You've tried it... it didn't work, I can understand that and move on

I have an idea. We can have a political forum so long as I'm the only mod there. Even though I'm not biased one way or the other, you'd hate it more than not having a political subforum.

If you want politics, why not just hit up the media sites.

Fox news, MSNBC, Bill O reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, Dr. Phil, etc. They are all affiliated one way or another and I'm sure there's tons of political discussion on their official sites/forums.

Or just post on facebook. Half the people on there average 3 political posts/rants a day or so.

I mean I looked up those pics of Dr. Laura from back in the day, but who didn't, right?
