"Those were only made for straight line. They can't turn"

Yesterday, I was going to lunch with some co-workers.

Up ahead was a red, 1965 Corvette. very very nice. Of course, the other people in our car asked me the year, they can't tell. Then the guy in the back seat starts declaring his knowledge of performance cars.

He tells everyone, those Corvettes couldn't handle. They could only go in straight lines. Just drag cars. The Civic we were in can out-handle that old Corvette.

This guy's experience with performance driving and performance cars extends to doing 100 mph in a Hybrid, on a trip down to Florida.

I asked him if he thought that race cars existed in 1965 that could race on a curvy road track. "Sure". I asked him what cars he thought might have raced on those tracks. "Race cars". Then I asked him if he thought the car we were in would beat any of the cars. "No, this isn't a race car".

Then I asked him if he had heard of the GT350, or the z/28. He said 'sure'. It was news to him that those cars especially the first GT350s, were actually race cars that drove on the street. It was also news that they used to race them against...Corvettes. It was further news to him that 289 Cobras raced small block Corvettes, and that Corvettes weren't light cars, and a '69 Camaro was a lighter race car than a '69 'vette. "But they are fibreglass!"

He started asking me what percentage "faster" a RWD car is than a FWD car. I eventually just told him "8.76%". Damn. The dude is 43 years old.

I love people like that. I feed into there bs just to see how far they will actually go. Frankly you can't fix them so you might as well make it as enjoyable as you can so you don't choke them out!!!!!!

That's just sad. He needs to be euthanized, surely there is an abandoned warehouse or something you and your buddies could dump his body...

At the very least confiscate his man card...

Unfortunately, I can't keep a level head long enough. That's why I don't bother...goes double for politics.

8.76% faster? HA! Everybody knows that it's closer to 8.9%! I don't know where you get YOUR info (Really, loved your reply to him.... classic!).

Plus, they go 0- 60 in a really fast amount of time, because they are pulling, not pushing (just the other day, I had to give a ride to somebody from work... as soon as we started accelerating, he said, "Oh, wow, you said this car was rear wheel drive, and I can feel it... you can feel how the rear is pushing!").

Okay, but about that 'Vette not being able to corner... sounds like a fella trying to prove how smart he is, by saying something controversial. Met a thousand of those types, it's a personality disorder. They generally only prove that they are dumb as a sock full of hammers (no offense to the socks full of hammers out there), but there are boatloads of people who just say stuff that contradicts what is factual and accepted, in order to prove that they have information above and beyond what most average people think. I'm pretty sure the description that psychologists use to describe these individuals is "Blowhards."

I can't stand guys like that. I had a guy come up to me the other day at a streetmeet and he has a 1LE. So we are having a discussion about the ZL1 and 1LE and he goes on to tell me that his car is "1400 lbs" less than my ZL1. I was like what. I asked in amaze 1400? I was oooook, but then he goes on to tell me that his hood is made of Carbon Fiber and that is one of the things that helps with weight reduction in the 1LE. I just went with it and figured that it wasn't worth the time to prove him wrong. I had told him that I had never seen anything about the hood on a 1LE being changed other than having a vinyl wrap, he tells me that their wasn't that many people on C5 that have a 1LE. Then we start talking about the Z/28 and he tells me that you can't buy one. You have to bid on a Z/28 and there is already a bid war going on for the first one and that it is already at 1mill. The next time that I see him I am going to shoot him down and crush his world with facts. That night I should have asked him what the weight on the sticker inside the driver side door says and then compare it to mine, but I didn't. I will next time.

It's amazing how the average person out there has no clue as to what they are driving or completely get their facts wrong.

I've known some SERIOUSLY misinformed--- or lying--- people in my time. One of the best in my book was:

Me: "Damn, that was a fine car that just went by!"
Liar Liar Pants on Fire: "Yup. I got me one of them exact same Mercedes at home."
Me: "But.. that was a BMW that just went past... a nice seven series..."
Liar Liar Pants on Fire, after a short pause to get his story together: "Yup, I know that was a BMW.. mine's a special BMW Mercedes, custom built for me. It's the only one ever made."
Me: "Oh... wow." (However my 'wow' at that point was nothing compared to his claim shortly thereafter that he regularly did over 200 MPH in it, LEGALLY, as the state of Florida had certified, licensed, and fully blessed his ability and right to drive over 200 MPH.... the only license the state had ever issued like that)

Let's just euthanize the whole state of Florida while we're at it. With how much this thread considers it, it will be fine. XD
