Are there any Chevy/GM haters on this forum that bought a Camaro?

I've heard it mentioned many times that someone wouldn't buy a car because they hate the brand. I did meet a guy that has a V6 Camaro, it's the first GM vehicle he has ever owned. He own's a business and every one of his company trucks and company vehicles are Ford's. He flat out said he hated GM/Chevy, but totally loves his Camaro. He thought the styling of the Camaro was so much more than what the Mustang offers that he just had to have the Camaro.

I'm not a Dodge fan but I would love to own a Challenger so I can't believe it's that unusual for someone to buy a specific vehicle even if they hate the manufacturer.

Just the opposite. I have nothing against Ford in general but I don't really like Mustangs.

Forgive me for I have sinned, is this not confessional?

I hate Fords with a passion. Don't want one. But my mom has a pair of Fords and it's not like I catch fire when I sit in them(might get a little warm sometimes). She has one of those Thud-erbirds from about a decade ago, I'll admit it's a nice car, fun to drive, handles well.

But where I sinned at was somewhere when there was no Camaro and the Rustangs started to look attractive. And then they came out with that 400hp Craptor F150(which was a ton at the time) and I really thought about going over to the dark side.

Is it like being on a diet where it's okay to look and not touch, or is that when you look at another woman, even if you don't touch, you're still cheating?

I'm not opposed to any brand really. I prefer to stay with either GM, Ford or Chrysler products though. If I truly hated a brand I would never own it.

Might be blasphemous but, I don't really think you need to like GM to love the Camaro, the Camaro is a well-made vehicle with lots of features and a fun drive.

Way I view it is a compliment if that guy thought a Camaro was better then the brand he prefers (Ford) in terms of pony cars. We win again.

I did.

My first car was a 1995 V6 3.4L Camaro. I totalled it within 6 months(should've died, great safety)

It had an issue with it's window regulators breaking(the plastic clips)

My second car was a 1994 V6 3.4L Camaro. It was ok, had a torque converter that was bad and a coolant leak. It lasted about 50k miles of my ownership(120k total)

I bought my wife a 2003 Grand Prix GTP Supercharged. It was an awesome car. Every single window regular's plastic clips broke.

I spoke to a lot of my friends that owned GMs between 2000-2006 and they all had the same problem with the window regulators. This lead me to believe GM probably bought 1 billion window regulators and used them on all of their vehicles. But the design was flawed, and because GM had so many they weren't willing to recall and lose so much inventory. So they were content with the customers just having to suffer.

They were all nice cars in their own right, but the low quality of such a basic component and GM's reluctance to DO ANYTHING about it turned me off to GM.

I traded my Camaro in for a 2004 Toyota Tacoma SR5 PreRunner. I loved it. Our next 2 cars were Toyotas.

But then of course, I saw Transformers. I declared on the spot that the ONLY GM car I'd ever buy again was a 5th Gen Camaro.

And here I am!

That was the point I was making. The Camaro design is so awesome that even hard core Ford and/or Dodge guys want one.

i just bought a new 13 camaro this week. i currently have a 07 GMC Envoy and a 98 Firebird, both bought new. i have always owned GM cars since i started driving, from 2 Chevelles, to MOnte Carlo and Skylark, both junk back in early 80s, and 86 Camaro which was a great car. i have GM mastercard, and dealer knows i am loyal Gm customer, and just used 2400 points on my camaro i just bought. its a 2 LT vert.

I was pretty po'ed after buying a new '11 GMC , having issues with it and getting the runaround - but I couldn't get past not wanting a Camaro.
When the truck was traded in for darn near what I paid for it new, I gave things one more try.

My previous car was 05 Mustang convertible. Really loved it. Never had a problem with it.

Before that I drove an Altima.

When I was a poor college kid I swore I would never buy an American car.

Currently, I don't like much made by Chevy. I hate all of their cars with a passion. Their trucks are decent, my other ride is a Suburban. Hate Buicks. Hate Cadillacs more - so ugly.

Now the new vette, wow, that blows me away. Not just the styling and performance, but all the engineering that went into - just incredible. Even the interior was purpose built and uses real materials. I find the whole car astounding. If that much care went into a Cruz (awful name) maybe I'd change my mind about GM cars. But if I had to buy a car, Altima, Maxima, Accord, even Hyundai's are all much preferable.

not really a GM hater, more a domestic hater, if you have to use so strong a word. but you could definitely call me one of those import snobs. made an exception with the camaro. and even though I have nothing against it, and love the car, it will almost certainly be my last domestic purchase.

now flame away boys
