Rental car drags, 13 Fusion ecoboost vs 13 impala.
Ok, I will admit this may sound silly, but it is just for fun. My brother had 2 rentals (one for work and one for use while his Caddy is reaired last week). Anyways the 2 vehicles he had were a 2013 Fusion SE with the 2.0 ecoboost and a 2013 Impala with the 3.6/6 speed auto. I got to drive the Fusion quite a bit and rode a bit in the Impala during a few WOT runs. my thoughs are the cars were extremely close with the Fusion having better low end power, but the Impala was much better on mid and top range. My brother states after taking the Impala on a long trip it is definitely quicker than the Ecoboost. I tried to locate some test info on both, but come up with nothing. All i could locate on the Fusion was AWD tests (this was a FWD) which put it around 6.8 to 60, and could only locate GMs 0-60 estimate on the Impala of 6.6 which i sure is conservative. Thinking both should be around 6.3-6.5 0-60 and around 14.7-14.9 in 1/4 mile, though i think the Impala could surprise. Just for fun, which do you think would win the rental car drags?

you're not comparing the right models here. The Taurus is the Impala's competitor and if you line up an SHO against an Impala the Impala will be watching the tail lights get smaller and smaller.
The Malibu is the Fusions competitor. |

haha, I know that. I am not comparing classes, just these 2 rental cars he happened to have that felt really close. That said, a decently loaded SE Fusion (ound the sticker, was 29k, should be close to the Impala which was an LT with a sunroof, so that is something haha.

Always good advice haha. We really weren't being hard on them though, any car is going to go WOT at some points lol. Now when i was MUCH younger I did find out in an 01 Dodge Ram rental you can get a slight bit of air crossing a hilltop railroad crossing given enough speed and also it could really smoke 1 tire with a nice brake stand lol. That was a long time ago and was much younger haha.

Makes perfect sense to me that the N/A LFX V6 would pull away in mid and especially upper rpms. The 3.6 has a nice flat torque curve across the rpm range so I think for an N/A V6 it has decent low end torque, but not quite what some of the modern turbo 4 cylinders. It definitely hits a good stride up top.
That said, the T4s are made to have that good low to mid range grunt but they tend to run out of steam on the high end. My wife's small SUV has a turbo 2.0 and it is fun and peppy enough on the low end, it goes good! But put it in manual mode and try to rev it and you can tell it is lacking on the upper end..

There may or may not be video evidence of me and a certain 2013 Impala LTZ rental and some hooning on top of a parking garage.
Don't buy ex-rentals.
