He did say "lower to working class" there are still people who make minimum wage, and that is nowhere near $50k

you're right... but the phrase "lower to working class" implies that they don't fit in the 50k/year category... which is complete

I know a few people, see many more, that are working at min wage jobs, driving 25 year old gas guzzling clunker cars...... those are the ones 'hurting'
and have no options but to buy gas to go to work.....

Lets hope that the new Camaro sells enuff so GM can engineer some oil proof technology........

I can't believe this. Apparantly there are talks in the goverment about a proposal to raise the gas price to, get this, 16$ a gallon to meet some kind of EU standards. HOW MESSED UP IS THAT? Just build better engines! I mena how is this supposed to solve anything? Especially in this country where people NEED their cars if they live further away from a big town then 60 miles, which would by the way include just about the majority of the country! Stupid politicians, this better not go trough!

Really?!?!?!? i've heard suspending the gas tax for right now... but then the politicians say they'll impose it on the fuel companies... that won't lower prices of the gasoline... it'll just pass the price onto us the consumer... i say **** the gas tax and burn it... get the oil under Colorado and get our prices where they should be...

Wanna hear a real Catch-22?
America is curbing their gas usage. Which is lowering the demand from gasoline refineries (different from oil companies). Which means their refineries are quickly becoming not profitable. So in order to break even, they are raising prices, too.

So: We use less gas - the price Goes UP!
We use more gas - the price Goes UP!

Talk about messed up.....

My desire to post in this thread is immense but it could get me too stressed out and involved so...all I would like to say is...Business needs to be controlled...they don't have people's best interests in mind. Atleast not many of 'em.

Throttle back please. I was only repeating what Clark Howard stated when discussing the study. I couldn't give a crap less what "category" 50K a year falls into or 150K for that matter. Above the poverty level or below it, who cares. If you have a problem with how the study defined the income categories then send an email to Mr. Howard.

Now, how 'bout a response on how only the very lowest income earners are affected by the fuel prices. And furthermore, even they don't drive less, they just spend less in other areas of thier lives to make room for gas costs.

We could drill for oil in new places and tap into our reserves and it will make very little difference in gas prices until we can refine oil faster. Which means new refineries. I can't confirm this, but, I was told the last oil refinery was built in 1978. So, that means it is probably pretty efficient with very little waste on 40 year old technology.

This is exactly why OPEC denied President Bush's request to increase oil production. Their answer was, "you can't process it any faster so we won't make any more."

What are all the supposed development and advancing technology costs that come from the price of a barrel of oil i hear from CEO's being interviewed on fox news then...could it be that companies are just pulling our legs? (or the fact that they sponsor fox news)
