the only way to combat bullying is with violence. Talking it out will not work. Walking away will not work.

Thanks for posting this Yoshi. As a Dad one of my only fears is my kids not being able to properly handle a situation when I am not there. While I am a firm advocate of talking or walking away what happens when those things are not an option.

So again, thanks Yoshi!

BTW, to be clear that is NOT bullying, that is assault. Bullying is verbal, *maybe* a bit of a shove/push, it is NOT tossing someone down and wailing on them.

Bullying will always be around and people need to sack up and teach their kids to deal with/ignore it. Assault? Teach your kid to defend themselves/kick their attackers ass.

The thing is that violence is not always necessary, especially amongst kids. In the Gracie Bullyproof curriculum, they don't even teach actual submissions. They only teach escapes and holds to control the opponent while you talk them out of their "attack".

The message that I liked in the video is the one where Rener says, "We only taught him all those techniques so that he'll never have to use them."

Yes, you are correct. They specifically call the "attack" an assault, not bullying in the first part of the video. I only called it "bullying" because it goes in line with the Gracie Bullyproof curriculum.

Yup, the part of being assertive verbally is what got me interested. Sometimes its just how you say things that matters. Being able to defend yourself would only increase the confidence to speak up.

Honesty, it's a good idea in a perfect world but it would never work out that way.

Him having no confidence is why he was targeted. The other kid knew he wouldn't fight back. Martial Arts will teach your kid confidence. I talked and walked away from more fights (in my younger days) because of confidence. But you have to be able to back up that when its time.

Gracie's are great instructors.

So, are you saying that everybody should just start fights without regard to consequences?

Yep, definitely the right way to go. I'm not saying that it is completely avoidable, but not every situation has to lead to violence. Intent = focus + will...so let's say somebody has malicious intent towards you; you can influence either their focus or will, and thus influence their intent.

lmao way to put words in my mouth.... If someone is bothering you and will not stop after being asked the only alternative is violence. how did trying to talk it out and walking away work for this boy?
