Please take notice of this directly above. While Camarowa is entitled to their opinion, what happens in the real world could be very different than just driving off. Most importantly....it's a reinforcement of their behavior. If they aren't stopped, they will continue on and on "victimizing others" who just duck and hide trying to get away. Again, that's fine. But let's face it, these punks deserve jail time (well, they deserve something else, but I can't go there).

I know you read the OP's ENTIRE post, right? The police ONLY noticed where and what was going on when they saw the OP drawing his weapon. If the police didn't see that, they wouldn't have had their attention drawn to the other guy with the metal in his hand since he was being BLOCKED BY A CAR. Had the OP driven off, the bad guys wouldn't have been stopped, wouldn't have gone to jail for terroristic threats (which is one step below a felony in Texas), wouldn't have gone to jail for pub intox, wouldn't have gone to jail for DWI (which, thank God was stopped because they could have potentially driven off and gotten into a wreck and killed someone like a child...or maybe they could have crashed into you and your family when you were trying to get away...who knows.

Regardless, the punks wouldn't have been handled in the manner in which they were dealt with because the complainant would have been GONE. ...and lets not forget the police might not have been able to discern who the bad guys even were. Had it not have been for the OP, these punk racist idiots would not have been dealt with in the manner they should have been. The fact it was racially motivated only make the charges against them worse. Yes, this was a big deal. Yes, the OP handled it the right way. Yes, these punks need to be dealt with the right way.

If that was genuinely not a possibility....do whatever you need to do protect your family (not car as it can be replaced).

Matching aggression with a show of potential aggression (drawing a weapon would qualify IMO) is never the best course of action unless utterly necessary and all other options have been exhausted. Only the OP can truly gauge the situation at hand and if he feels that drawing his weapon is the only and best course of action than that's all that matters.
Then why did you tell him and everyone else in this thread it was unnecessary? That statement and that statement alone is what caused the ONLY bickering in this thread. Think about it.
I am just glad I live in a part of the country where there is no need to conceal carry, be on the lookout for potential aggressors etc.

Following the opinion of the "herd" (your 99% comment), you would have been wrong many times during the course of history (generalizing). The lack of independent thinking and following the herd is exactly what is destroying this country.
I can't believe you'd say it was his lack of independent thinking that is destroying the county when the obvious problem here was the three people who were racially attacking this military man and his family...and pulling weapons on him. What is right and what is wrong here. You are entitled to your independent thinking....but that's just going to lead you to be a statistic....in what you think is your perfect crimeless corner of the world. What's really destroying this world is that 1% who keeps saying, "remove that....it offends me." Psh....but that's probably a whole different thread or even a whole different site. Again, you are entitled to your opinion...and 100% of this thread disagrees with you. If it gets to that point, it's probably time to just move on

To the op, imo there is time and a place to draw your weapon, looking on from the outside (I know easier said than done), it might have been a little pre mature, again just my opinion. Maybe getting in the car and driving might have been a solution..... However, you are the one who had to make that split second decision and if you feel comfortable with that decision than that is all that matters.

I would never suggest that unless you are driivng to a police station. I had a man follow me to work and threaten me. I would never suggest to anyone to drive home or somewhere they go to regularly. I was lucky, I had amazing support system at work. My boss let me leave early and drive 3 hours away to stay with my folks for a few days.

The officer asked me about my living situation. Young women living alone, he actually suggest that I apply for permit to carry and take classes. He thinks I was targeted because of my car and said it will probably not stop. Plus, this wasn't the first time Jewel and I were targetted. I was going one 1 police report every 3 months.

Edit: just thinking about this is giving me the shakes again.

He was also just offering his opinion. His opinion was that your statement was moronic. In this case his opinion is also a fact.

And anyone who truly believes that crime isn't an issue in their area is completely delusional.

Crime is everywhere and anyone can do it. Even that little old lady that makes you cookies one a week, can rob you when you at work.

I compared Seattle crime stats with New Orleans... Unless you have a contract on your head N.O. is considerably safer... go figure.

wth? I would've done the same thing in that situation, but unsure if I would've had the calmness as the OP did...maybe make the kid dance a little...

I see you live in Louisiana, I'm originally from Wisconsin and moved to Arkansas. It's really pathetic that racism is alive and well in the South.
There are close-minded, unintelligent idiots in every state. Yes, even Wisconsin. Some just bubble up from the pot more than others. I'm a 25 yr retired Army Vet First Sergeant myself and have been around to be able to make that conclusion.

Great job Trooper 182. Being born and raised in Southwest Louisiana, I am proud of my Cajun heritage but ashamed of the white trash that exhibit such behavior as those worthless punks.

Well we are all entitled to our opinions. Even if I do not agree with him I still respect him for at least giving his honest opinion. Oh and trust me after I drew I picked a spot on the ground in front of me and if he would have crossed it...
