Perfect example of a law-abiding American citizen exercising his 2nd amendment right (2nd Amendment excerpt: supporting the natural rights of self-defense)!
Nice work man! Just think if those idiots had smoked something instead of drinking alcohol, legally. That whole scenario probably would have been avoided. Just sayin'

This has nothing to do with me not understanding the situation, or the OP being justified in drawing his weapon. I understand both. I simply stated, that based on the situation presented (looking on from the outside) it might (emphasis on might) have been better to simply get in the car, drive away and have the authorities handle the punks. If that was genuinely not a possibility....do whatever you need to do protect your family (not car as it can be replaced). Matching aggression with a show of potential aggression (drawing a weapon would qualify IMO) is never the best course of action unless utterly necessary and all other options have been exhausted. Only the OP can truly gauge the situation at hand and if he feels that drawing his weapon is the only and best course of action than that's all that matters. I am just glad I live in a part of the country where there is no need to conceal carry, be on the lookout for potential aggressors etc. Following the opinion of the "herd" (your 99% comment), you would have been wrong many times during the course of history (generalizing). The lack of independent thinking and following the herd is exactly what is destroying this country.

Also, just because people conceal carry, doesn't mean they are looking for trouble, expecting trouble, or trigger happy. It's insurance. Most people that conceal carry, don't even think about having their gun, until they come into a situation that they might need it. Like the OP's situation.

Camarowa, What would you have done, and what are the possible results of your actions?
OP, you did good. One question, were you nervous pointing a loaded weapon at another human being?

Take a look at this page. Until every one of those categories has a zero occurrence per 100k people, then your argument that you live in a "safe" part of the country is invalid.

I don't think I would have acted any different then then OP in that exact situation. Drawing his weapon potentially prevented harm to his family and his property. It sure as hell got the response the OP wanted because the aggressor stopped in his tracks! Talking about a quick decision... it is your opinion that he overreacted and I can respect that, although I disagree. My wife also thought the same as you, but she is deathly afraid of guns. If she was in that situation, she would have hoped the Police would have done their job. Its better to have a gun and not need it then to need it and not have one. At the end of the day, OP goes home with his family unharmed. Mind controlled by Cerebro

Aggressive? You are way too sensitive. Maybe you believe the attacker just needed a hug. Please, how do I "come off" now? Do I care? No. Have the last word as I know you will not be able to resist. Keep digging your hole deeper and you'll never see the light. Perhaps I should have written 99.9%. |

I read the original post and then said "this should be interesting". I'm glad the thread went in the right direction and I support your actions.
I have been hesitant to get a CWP, because somewhat like the lone dissenter posting here, I don't feel it necessary. A CWP is fairly easy to get here in SC, and I think this thread has changed my mind.

Mr Twisty to tell you the truth I was more nervous in this situation than I ever was in combat. Being deployed were trained and your awareness is more heightened. Also the fact that my guys are with me and have my back helps. I think I was more nervous because my family was with me. But making the decision to draw came naturally. The last thing I wanted to have my family see was me have to shoot a person. One thing my instructor told us is when the moment comes you will know what you have to do. There is no point in carrying if you are not willing to make that life or death decision. Be prepared to live with the choice you have to make. If I had to shoot the guy I would have felt bad but I would not loose any sleep over it. He made a bad decision that could have cost him his life.

I'm just sorry we live in a world where you still have to put up with this kind of stupidity and ignorance.
While I would love to be able to say that kind of stuff will be going away in the near future, unfortunately, you and I both know that's not the case. Stay strong, be vigilant, keep a positive outlook, and remember that you've got an entire community behind you if you need it.

A gun that can stop a situation without being fired as the best gun. I would have done the same thing. This is the kind of story that needs to be out there during the gun control debate, and it's not. Good people, using their legally obtained and carried property to protect themselves, and not needing to harm anybody to accomplish it.
