Fatal crash at Le Mans today

Bad accident today at Le Mans. Unfortunately, this crash resulted in a fatality. It looks like he was trying to avoid a ferrari that was getting loose in front of them.

This one shows how hard of an impact ot was. Hood is twisted.

X3. How tragic. It's a weird feeling watching the accident
and thinking the guy only has seconds to live.

Wow that's dark
These have to end in motor sports! I know we are trying, but it's not good enough. What about those crash warning systems on some road cars? Would those be helpful somehow in racing, albeit with some alterations?

He wasn't killed on impact. They got him to the hospital but he died shortly after arrival. But yea feels strange watching knowing he's passed. Can happen that fast.

I was watching this on tv when it happen. Such a sad day and may he rest in peace. My dad said the one wreck he remembered was some car coming over a hill in le mans and was going so fast it kinda took flight and went into the trees. Thankfully that driver lived.

yeah I heard about that one to :( wish they could make it safer. I'm sure they try every year to make sure all precautions ate taken. Sadly things happen. I just don't see how they can make it 100% safe when cars are going that fast :(

Man... sucks to see and hear of things like this... seems like there are more deaths lately with all of the safety features than there used to be... are people taking more chances because they feel invincible?

You mean like stability control or skid control?
I am sure race drivers would not want some brake, steering, throttle nanny "helping" them drive.
Sometimes the physics of going from 180 mph to 0 in 6/10th of a second is more than a human body can survive.

Although I have never head of the man, it is surely a tragic loss for the racing community as a whole and he surely will be missed by family and friends.

Indeed. As unfortunate as it is, I imagine that various forms of 'active safety' wouldn't be any better for professional drivers than the current system of 'keep your wits about you' + 'passive safety'. Since they are all too accustomed to a car reacting in a particular way, if the car were intervene to 'save' them, some over-correction might result in another accident with a 3rd car. Such is life at 200 mph where the blink of an eye can literally be the difference between life and death. I'm sure there will be some form of investigation, where one or more safety protocol is instigated which may save a couple lives over the coming decades -which is absolutely, unequivocally good. But at the same time, nobody involved in racing, be it drivers, teams, officials, or friends/family are under the assumption that the activity is 'safe', or that it will be 'safe' in the foreseeable future. Again, such is life at 200 mph.

Tragic. At least he died doing something he loved. Professional race car driving at this level is not a job. It's a passion that is shared by all other drivers.
