What's the point of sheeting? I get beading showing hydrophobic properties but when is sheeting every going to matter in a real world application? Water or rain is never going to have that sort of volume in such a short amount of time. So what's the point; is it show how fast water leaves the surface of the vehicle?

Then again I live in the desert, so wax for me is about looks since it's rarely going to come into contact with water.
Sheeting is the only important water characteristic in my opinion.

Beading leads to water spots, sheeting leads to clean car. Which would you rather have?

Beading does look cool though.

I agree with that. Although my TDS is so bad water spotting occurs in less than 10 minutes, water etching in under 48 hours. As in EPA max is 500mg/L, the last year I've lived in areas with 480 and am moving to an area of 460 or so.

Only time it matters in a practical sense is when washing. More water you can sheet off means less water you have to towel off. Could be argued that it might help water run off the car when it rains thus reducing the possibility of water spotting but that's getting a little iffy in my opinion.

This makes sense, I just think it's iffy for rain because I don't think it has the speed to sheet off unless the car is moving, but then the water is going to move off anyways because the car is moving.

I use basic polyfoam pads. Meg's makes some yellow ones OTC. If you order online I like CCS Euro Foam applicators. Use enough product where it glides over the surface using no pressure remember you're just spreading it not working it in and if it's gets very grabby you need more product. I think trying to push it in may have been your problem too, I just use enough pressure to keep it on the surface in a cross hatch pattern.
