There is no talks about a Cobra R at all either. The Cobra R had always been a very limited production ( 200 roughly) Mustang tweaked by SVT for the track. The Cobra R's were produced only in 1993, 1995, and 2000. The SVT Cobras produced between the respective R years were developed from the technology of those cars. The R cars were developed and pushed by John Colletti (retired) former chief engineer of Ford SVE and SVT.

FYI:

2010 through current production GT500 is manufactured in-house by Ford because Shelby America could not handle the demand in their facility..these cars are given the normal VIN and no CSM number from Shelby. The 2007-2009 GT500 were produced in- house by Shelby American and received a CSM number (same as GT350 and GTS).

lol you beat me to it. That's just one of the things he's wrong about. I also thing that nothing he said will come true.

Also, the only thing that Ford uses from Shelby is the name.

I stand to be corrected on the actual build location and CSM number issuance procedures for the 2007-2009 GT500. My apologies as the cars are/ were built in Flat Rock Michigan.
After further research and clarification, the cars were built and manufactured by Ford Motor and issued the Ford VIN. If the buyer requested the car to be sent to Shelby America directly from Ford for further modifications, the car was issued with a CSM in addition to the VIN. A CSM number can only be issued if the car was modified by the Las Vegas Shelby America facility.

Today, Ford does not send any car directly to Shelby America for any modification. The owner or dealer must get the car to the Shelby America facility for modifications on their own. There is a current 3-4 month wait on modifications.

The Super Snake, Shelby 1000, KR, GT350 are modified by Shelby America in Las Vegas. These will not be modified to the "monikered format" on a Ford assembly plant. I do not want to use the word "built" as all mustangs are built in Flat Rock.
The GT500 engines are built by two man teams on a niche line in Romeo, MI then sent to Flat Rock.

There are a "few parts" on the GT500 shared between Shelby Performance Parts assembled by Ford. Check out the Super Snake modification brochure by Shelby America. You will see that the Super Snake Conversion carries a credit for those cars with the factory Performance Package. Those shared parts are some suspension components for the performance package Ford factory build. There are only a few SPP components used. Cars are modified by Shelby America(SA) and parts are sold/ supplied by Shelby Performance Parts (SPP).Thought that should be clarified for you.

By far, you are correct that Ford has a licensing agreement to use the Shelby name on its Mustang line. Ford has collaborated with Shelby for some tech data in the building of the GT500. Ford uses the Shelby name on its top Mustang from a marketing standpoint because it knows the Shelby name will sell better than the SVT Cobra name.

One additional clarification relating to your original posting:

The names Shelby, GT500, GT350, KR, Shelby 1000,
GTS are all licensed and trade marked through Shelby America. Use of some or all of the names are granted by agreement to Ford ( most likely just Shelby and GT500), Shelby Performance Parts ( a subsidiary of Shelby America and The Shelby Foundation. Other companies may have an agreement as well. The GT500 is the only car not "built" or manufactured by Shelby America..... Only the variants are "modified" by Shelby America.

The names Cobra, SVT, SVE and SVO, Mach 1, Bullit, CS or California Special and other names are licensed and trade marked through Ford.

As long as Ford and Shelby are in a business relationship ( at least through 2016) there will be a Shelby GT500 manufactured by Ford. If that business relationship ends, you will most likely see the SVT Cobra Mustang manufactured.

I do not know who owns the GT40 name today. I do not think Ford owns it. Ford named the Ford GT instead of naming it the GT40 due to a licensing issue in 2004.

As stated before, your information is incorrect.

he was pissed right off when stock zl1's were running 11.7 in the 1\4 and went on an internet tear about how they were cheating.

This seems right. I feel like I read somewhere the Shelby name won't make it to the new generation, but that there may be a Boss or Mach 1 or something like that. But I don't know if Ford will offer a 4 cylinder and a V6 that I bet will be pretty equivalent in terms of HP and torque.

"The GT350 is strictly a Shelby American car, sold through Shelby America in Las Vegas....home of the Super Snake as well. There are no talks to increase production or build the GT350 in-house through Ford like the GT500."

Actually Ford has purchased the rights to the GT350 name from Shelby, I suspect for a Boss replacement in the line-up.

This is your quote on the next lineup..and it is incorrect. There will not be an SVT Cobra for the next Mustang as it will be known as the GT500. I am assuming your referring to the next model year lineup (2014). Or are you referring to the next Mustang global platform for 2015? I see the ecoboost coming into the the Mustang global platform in 2015 as a possible V6 replacement. I don't see an SVO Mustang along side a GT....Ford tried that in 1984 and it was a flop because the MSRP of the SVO back then was as much as or higher than the GT. That SVO died in 1986.

As long as Ford and Shelby have an agreement to market the Shelby Mustang, that will continue. What happens after the current agreement expires no one knows for sure. I don't see the joint venture ending anytime soon.
