I had just heard someone around here blew their motor because the mechanic put the wrong oil in. I am guessing he means the wrong weight, but I thought that was never a big deal.

Not entirely.. You'd have to help it along. like running it hard at redline..

for most automotive oils you should be fine for a while if you don't beat it up.

Now if you put something like 2 stroke oil in it or transmission fluid...

that would be bad

That's exactly what I was thinking. He just had a cam put in and some exhaust work on his '05 Mustang, and now it's at the Ford place getting repaired. He said it was oil starvation.

Oil starvation doesnt come from having the wrong oil
