Only once I said no...cause I really didn't. He thought I wasn't wearing my seatbelt (I had my seat really leaned back) and he literally ran to the door after we stopped to make sure it was on lol. It kinda threw me off cause all the other times it took a while till the cops were at my window. I just a quick question...I always greet the officers by their names...do you guys like that? |

I haven't stopped one, I have not even seen one in the city I work in.
Each stop is unique and I will stop one for a violation if I need to. In Utah, a front plate is not a primary stop. |

Wow, you are really on a power trip. I know that you think it is funny to take away someone's rights and hold them without due cause, as you just pointed out. Great attitude. |

1: can you tell the neighbor to turn off his generator? (it's after the hurricane and no one has power. The generator is keeping people's food cool so he can feed his family) 2: my boyfriend won't let me go to sleep. 3: they're shooting fireworks (4th of july) 4: they're being too loud (new years) 5: there's a drunk driver in front of me (we catch up, not drunk. the complainant was just mad that he/she was cut off on the road) 6: I was assaulted (he was drunk and started the fight) 7: suspicious person (neighbor is taking out the trash) it goes on and on. i'll help you out a little: Detention w/o Charge I don't know everything, nor does any officer. We learn constantly every day. So if I'm wrong about any of this, I hope one of my brother/sister officer's on here will correct me

When was the last time you went on a killing spree? How about transported mass amounts of drugs across state lines? Are you a terrorist? If you answered no to all of those, you probably don't ever have to worry about running into him. If you answered yes, well, then that's PLENTY of reason to throw your butt in jail.

I think they see a red mustang that is not a European sports/luxury car and not a GM sports car. It seems with a lot of posts on here, the cops just love the camaro and let the person off the hook. I'm a short, thin, white guy. I had my business casual clothes on several times. I think they just hate the car or me.

There's another guy in here...he knows who he is...who hates on military/ex-military the same way. (He made the height requirement) Cops, soldiers, EMS ALL deserve respect. Admittedly, some are a$sholes. Not all. They get respect because their life is on the line, and for crappy pay. |

Do you need to be respectful of officers who pull you over? No, you really don't
Do they need to let you off with just a warning? No, they really don't Should your attitude and responses have merit on if you get a ticket or not? No, they really shouldn't. But by that logic, you should get a ticket every time you break the law, even a little. Its just common sense that being pleasant and respectful will go a long ways in keeping you from getting a ticket. Its been awhile since I've been pulled over, but the last time that I was here was a list of what I did wrong: Speeding 75 in a 55 (while passing, I still think that one is stupid) Failure to signal going out for the pass (I did signal coming back in, I must not have pressed the signal hard enough while going out) Rear liscense plate was unlight (bulbs had burned out w/out my knowledge) Expired Sticker DL address did not match current address Here's what I did: Roll down all the windows Turn on all cab lights Those were so the officer could more clearly see into the car and feel less at risk Speak in a kind, curteous, and honest manner I did not ask for a break Result: Written warning for all offenses Everthing was cleared up in the next 3 days. Was the officer being kind to me? Absolutely. Was I lucky? Maybe somewhat, but I still believe that by not acting like a jerk, I certainly helped his kind actions along. I'm not an officer, but I give them alot of respect. I try to do that with everyone. Try it sometime, its a heck of a lot nicer way to live. P.S. - I have no front license plate on my Camaro. I hope that if I am pulled over my kind words will keep me from getting a ticket, but it will be certainly within the officers rights to write me up anyways. |

nice post beowulf80
![]() The night before last (Saturday night) I was running radar and clocked this pickup going 52 in a 35. I start catching up to him and turn on my strobes. As I get behind him, I hear a metal hitting the ground sound and then sparks. As I'm passing the object, I see it's a gun. I bump for another unit to come check by to pick up the gun while and another unit to come and help me detain the guys. They stop and I approached their vehicle watching their hands the closer I got to the window. I act like I didn't see them toss the gun, asking for their license and proof of financial responsibility (insurance). I ask for the passengers I.D. as well. I tell them to hang tight and that I would be right back. I go back and wait for the backup unit (which I honestly should have done before approaching them but I felt If I waited too long they would have ran). Once the backup unit arrived, we walked up and detained both people. Once they were in the back of our shops (patrol cars) I went to search the vehicle. Heheh I found a walmart sized bag of weed. I was laughing my butt off. If they wouldn't have thrown the gun, I might have never known and they would have just gotten a ticket. But, on the other hand, had they not thrown the gun, they could have used it against me. The gun they tossed was a .45 cal Taurus semi auto pistol. A tad bigger then my .40cal Glock. wanna know what other joys we HPD officers enjoy? If we would have gotten into the chace, and they hit someone, hurt someone or such. I would be liable b/c I initiated the traffic stop. From what I gather, the city doesn't back us up. In fact, they even put a time constraint on our chases. Every officer knows that when a chase becomes unsafe that they will terminate the chase.

![]() I never get a warning, and always am a polite person but I live outside of Louisville in and near small towns. You get what you pay for! The dude I carpool with is 6'4" and big. A LEO pulled him over and he spoke rather harsh with the cop. Both me and my brother thought he was going to ticket him however he apologised for pulling him over If that would have been me, I would have told to write my own damn ticket too

I've only glanced through this thread and noticed some cop bashing-I say so what...I've learned to live with that, it is part of the job...but I do think people who do this are just ignorant of what the job is all about (not saying they are ignorant) and only understand it from what they see on tv or hear in music, maybe from what happened to a friend or personal experiences on a traffic stop and I bet on that stop, as long as they kept their cool they only recieved what they deserved if anything, and nothing more. If you don't know...most officers know what would cause complaints or discipline or even criminal charges and wouldnt jeopardize their families or their own well-being just because you called them out of their name. I just tell people I have conversations with who think along these lines that they are welcome to come down and go on a ride-along anytime they want. My 2 cents.
