A Star at Toyota, a Believer at Ford

It's good to see that some people CAN see the light.
Please read. It's long, but worth it.

Quote:
He talked about his grandfather, who had gone to work for Henry Ford in 1914 and later worked at the celebrated Rouge plant; about his first car, a vintage 1966 Mustang; and about the dealers and their families and their livelihoods.

Like a shy actor blossoming on stage, Mr. Farley became swept up in the emotional power of the moment. “I believe, in many ways, the future of Ford is the future of our country,” he said. “The work here is simply more important than the work I was doing at Toyota.” When he finished, the dealers rose for a standing ovation that left Mr. Farley momentarily stunned. After the applause died down, he savored the reaction.

“These people,” he said, “want to believe.”.........

..........“What do I want to be?” he recalled thinking. “What do I want my legacy to be? Do I want to spend two weeks in Japan debating the price of a new Lexus, or do I want to make a real difference?”

Has nothing to do w/ metaphors. Has everything to do with "doing the right thing" (as a matter of my opinion). In other words, work for our country and do your damdest for the good ole' USA, or work for someone elses country and not care.

And I say...

Good. Even though it's the competition, I still wish them well. Why, without the Mustang, who will we have to pummel??? It's good to see people who care like that.

Nice story. I hope that he and ford can make a come back. It will take alot for them to become #2 in the world again, but #2 in north america is within reach. In a year or two Ford will surpass Honda and Toyota in initial quality rankings and reliability. If they bring in some of their european cars for efficiency and little niceties, they should do well and beat the Japanesse at their own game.
