Did Anyone Ever Get Into a Police Chase?
Just wondering if Im not alone. Yes, I'll admit it. I have gotton into small chase with my black 1979 Trans Am when I was about 18 years old. I was living in Queens, New York. It was very late at night and luckily no other cars were around. I hide in a dark alley and shut the lights and engine off. The cop went right past me. I waited about a half hour until I came out of the alley. Dare I say, It was fun.

1978 camaro, just put on new wheels on the back (15" instead of 14", and i didnt know it would mess with the speedo), 18 yrs old. had skull and crossbones decal on the back window that was made for suvs but since it was on my rear window at an angle you couldnt see thru the back glass worth a crap. cruisin down the highway at about 70 (or at least i thought so), flying by cars, i get to an open area and let into it and get up to about 90-95 for a few minutes then i hear something that i think is the motor/drive train, so i turn down the radio, and hear the siren. reach out and hold my single side mirror steady and i see a cop about a mile back, i slow down and pull over.
he asked me how fast i was going, i said 90. he laughed and said "yeah, when i first clocked you, when you started to slow down you were doing 126!" i told him i didnt believe him and i wanted to show him why. got out of the car, popped the hood, showed him my 292 inline-6 and my 3 spd manual. we got to talkin for about 30 min or so about the car and i mention the new wheels. then it dawns on us what happened. we kinda laughed about it for a bit, then he told me, well, i have to give you a ticket for something. and being a good sport about it, he gave me a 90 in a 65. then proceeded to tell me that if i hadnt slowed down when i did, he was going to have a road block setup down the road cus he wasnt gainin on me.

At the tender age of 17, in a beat-up 1987 Cadillac with a tinted rear window and afternarket rims, back before those things were quite so common. It was Valentine's day. My (now wife) girlfriend had declined when I called earlier in the day for a date, and I was all tense as a result; that feeling remained when she later accepted. It was rainy as I came fast over the hill and down to the bottom of it under the yellow traffic light, sparks flying from the bottom of the car as it bottomed out.
It was about that time that I noticed a cop in a left-turn lane waiting for the light so he could turn onto the road I was on. A friend had recently told me that he lost a cop in a nearby neighborhood, so I decided to make a beeline for it before the cop started to follow. To get to that neighborhood was something identical to a highway on/off ramp, except there's no highway on either end of it. I had always wanted to pass someone on such a ramp, and there was my chance. As I tried to pass, the old jerk I was passing tried to block me; so, one side of the Caddy went up the curb and onto the dirt. By the time I approached that neighborhood, the cop had caught up and I decided not to actually do anything illegal while the cop was directly behind me. He followed me for awhile as I started to snake through and eventually pulled me over. I had a small amount of contraband, a car that stank very strongly of such contraband, and a bunch of suff that looked illegal but wasn't actually. I did not get to see her that night, and my slightly sagging headliner became a totally torn headliner. The roses I had for her were mostly destroyed too. I did get lucky the next night, though! A couple days later while totally obeying all laws, driving in the next town over, I got pulled and searched. Some months later while cleaning the car I found some contraband that they had missed...

well i voted "no" but i will tell you guys my worse experience with an officer..just a flat out bad night, i worked the grave yard shift and was headed to work as i normally would at 9:30 i began at 11:00 pm, so there i am taking the same route i always did and as i'm making a left turn my eyes catch a ford explorer now slowing down..in my mind i say "ooo sh!t" and yea i get hit, this a-hole decides to run and honestly i panic, i dont know what to do, i dial 9-1- and go for my wallet...its at home with my licence in it, i didnt have insurance either and by now the explorer was long gone, i got this at the gas tank but the car survived, so shoken up and hurting at the knees because my car spun around a few times i get back in and go, that work night i didnt do a thing right and its 7:30, time to go home, i get in my car expecting to be stranded but no, it turns on and works fine, my manager notices and we have a good laught about how it just happened but didnt mention anything to him, so off i go to my house, i'm almost there when a lady decides to egt infront of me doing some 25 in a 30 mile zone, angry i step on it and now that little sunfire's doing some 55, i hear a engine rev and soon i see lights behind me, i lay off the gas and scared as crap pull over, he tells me the situations bad and tell me to pull into a nearby empty lot, there he tell me to step out and to explain to him why i dont even have the registration....so i tell him the truth, so in the end i get 8 tickets which still haunt me, and i had to go to court.
no licence no insurance no seat belt speeding wrekless driving swirving from lane to lane one of my rear lights was broken and wasnt working (from the crash that night) and no registration i went to court and i paid only 175.00, and they said in 3 years they dissapear IF i dont get another ticket...i'm almost home free to get my "good driver" discount at state farm too! anyways yea that sucked and i'm lucky i didnt get arrested, i thank the officer for what he did, back then i didnt care, and even now i dont care haha but atleast i got everything legal and i've calmed down i do the limit now but i get pulled over for my tints now but they're legal. |

In my hometown there was this winding out of the way road that had two big hills that we called "the tits" that you could get some really good air on. It was hard to get a lot of speed up because it was a dirt road and it had a lot of turns before you got to the hills. I was on my way home from school and was driving my Subaru RX. It was turbocharged, 4 wheel drive and had a beefed-up suspension from the factory. I decided to take a couple of my friends with me and made sure they kinda balanced my car out with their seating positions. I put it in 4 wheel drive and nailed the gas pedal and went as fast as I could down that dirt road. I went over those hills at about 80. Looking to my right I was so high actually saw the powerlines right next to me. Looking to my left I saw the Town Constable at the sewer treatment plant looking right at me with his jaw dropped. He started running for his truck. When I finally landed I thought I lost my rear axle, but I just broke the bolts on my seat and it had tiilted way back and i got some little dimples in my hood from the struts traveling up and hitting it. I quickly dropped my friend off and got home as quick as I could before the Constable was able to catch up with me. I told my mom that my car wasn't running right and drove her car for a week. The constable came to the hardware store I worked at every day and I wanted to give him time to forget my car. He never did figure out who it was that day. My windshield cracked about a week later, but other than that the car seemed okay. Man, I was really crazy back then. My friend told me that people had money on how long I would live cuz I drove so fast all the time. A 2nd gen Firebird Formula was the only car to ever beat me in a race with that car. I am such a safe, defensive driver now. I'm glad I made it through those reckless years.

I've had my share of tickets, but you guys need to leave the cops alone. If you really want to avoid the 5-0, go get a Valentine One and some sharp eyes. You could really hurt someone on the streets avoiding the cops, even if they are just jerks trying to meet a ticket quota.

ive gotten into more then a few cop chases... on top of the fact hat cops ALL think my cars are stolen... i got pulled over soooo many times just to be asked if my caddy was stolen...at least 30 times a year... so now i just keep driving and they come to the door... let me guess... its stolen right...?
one time i got booked for doing 235 in an 80... chased by a helicopter... and got sent a letter because they couldn't catch me... i hid in a farm... but they sent my insurance a letter and they kicked me off. and my licence was suspended for morre than six months...

Same here. I used to wonder why my insurance rates were so high even though I never made a claim. Now I know that I was merely lucky to never have made a claim back then...Quote:
