I'm staying out of this conversation completely. This is going to get heated really quickly.

Ok, here is my opinion...

MJ did a lot for music. I love most of his work - always have. King of Pop, sure I can agree with that, but personally the dude was a mess. I wonder how many folks forget MJ's recent legal struggles in the US? And isn't it ironic that he moved to a country where the exact same thing he was being tried for in the US, isn't illegal or even frownned upon? It made me wonder, but realize at the same time - Money can buy freedom and if families want the money to keep on rolling in, they keep secrets. No one will ever know the truth.

yeah i agree somewhat but you could also say the opposite...how ironic was it that the minute mj was destroying the white superstars records in the US, all the wacko jacko stuff and all the allegations and rumors began, pretty ironic. but yes he was a mess towards the end of his life but on stage he was still the same icon and legend. Some people just arent born to survive the hardships of life, and mj was one of the ones who couldnt.

"One death is a tragedy; one million is a statistic."

This whole thread is gonna be opinions, opinions, opinions, as well it should be. We can go on and on about how we have no respect for the man in life or in death, or how we believe he is one of the greatest trailblazing pioneers of his craft. At the end of the day, he will be remembered as an entertainer, one with a tarnished name. He was famous for his life onstage and in the studio, and infamous for his life outside of those venues. That is why 2 million people were watching his memorial service. Unfortunately, a fallen soldier doesn't get that much press. Celebrities who manage to keep the front page from the height of their careers to their deaths will always get that kind of attention, whether they be artists, heroes/heroines, politicians, or dictators. Let the mourners mourn. Don't let this thread turn into a comparison between the deaths of apples to the deaths of oranges. I don't think we should talk about the accomplishments and/or follies of one man or woman (real or imagined) and compare them to another. Because 1)it's tasteless to do so and 2)they're not our problem anymore. It's like beating a dead horse. They've moved on and so should we. After all, the only ones who should be concerned with a person's passing are the beloved of that person. The fans and the commentators will forget in time only to remember once in a while, but the family and true close friends are the ones who really suffer. The love of fans cannot possibly compare to that of friends and family.

THAT IS A HUMAN and a FATHER. all the nonsense about mj didnt impact anything is fine but dont say he didnt want to be human..so if someones wife gets a boobjob that means they dont want to be human either....tell that to the 2 billion people worldwide that watched the memorial today. the man influenced many to strive for perfection.

imo of course
Ok, first of all, if you look at my post, I said he didn't SEEM to want to be black. And I wasn't talking solely about skin color. You just ASSUMED I was. I've said the same thing about Prince. Nice.

And MTV wouldn't play black artists? MTV wasn't even AROUND when MJ started. And that's . I was part of the original MTV generation. They played ALL of the popular black artists. Lionel, Prince, Whitney, Stevie, Tina, Lisa Lisa and a bunch more. If it was popular, it was on MTV. MJ had nothing to do with it. Don't believe all that crap you hear because you obviously weren't there or don't remember. Dude had a lot of fans. And btw, with the media shoving it down the worlds throats, of course a lot of people were watching. I wonder how many people watched OJs trial? Does that mean that he influenced and moved them as well? As far as his daughter crying, ya, that usually happens when a childs parent dies.
