That being said. People still race the ZL1 in a straight line and people have already talked about wanting to drag the upcoming Z28. So. The comparisons are there, have been there and will be there again. My comment was solely to point out that the 6.4L Dodge cars aren't turds. |

Personally, I doubt the HP wars are coming to an end. I think they are just starting. I know a lot of people who want to see the proposed Baracuda and Mach 1. |

the Hellcat has that capability but the car will be released with lower HP - this news is actually quite old. The ESC code has been in the option stream for over a year and this motor has been revised from originally supercharging the 6.4 to the new hellcat 6.2. LONG before Ford or GM did it. May want to go back and read some of the original material for the 6.1 when it debuted - the 6.1 bottom end problems put this project on hold and then the bankruptcy sort of side tracked this.

And I agreed so what's your malfunction? The SS comparison shows it is not a bad handler as the SRT price is much more comparable to a simillarly equipped SS than the 10,000 dollar more expensive ZL 1 which should ouperform the SRT by a wider margin than it does..

just went and looked over some srt8 specs and its no slouch. but its almost like mopar is holding it back and doesnt want it to be comparable overall performance. almost seems as if they are under delivering on purpose in some aspects(16mm rear sway bar, 245/255 tires on 9 in rims WTF?!?). i would love to see one with some proper wheels and tires and a few suspension tweaks could do on a road course. Id say that this car is in the Boss/1LE category and would win across the board IF it were setup properly from the factory.
That could be the plan though with there supposed Z/28 competitor. an SRT8 CORE with wider wheels tires and improved suspension components. Maybe some DI for a power bump |

This is good news, if true. I just can't see them offering a V8 that tops their V10. I hope they don't price it at $70K or something crazy. If they want sales, then the R/T or whatever the mid-range model turns out to be needs to be competitive in performance with the 5.0 and next-gen SS. The current Challenger is more of a big fast cruiser while the 5.0 and SS are more like actual sports cars.

"Horsepower Wars to end with 640 hp SRT"
I understand what the article is saying, but if we were just talking about horsepower that war ended with the 662 hp GT500. I doubt this new engine will be "one and done". So will this "Hellcat Hemi" have an aluminum block or iron block?

Don't know if Chrysler has the same policy as GM, but the Challenger can be in the same dilemma the Camaro is in. The "no car shall be more powerful than our top sports car" and for Chrysler that is the Viper. With the Viper making 640 hp I seriously doubt you'll see a Challenger making the same, even though it would be 2 different powerplants. There has only been one Chrysler product that made the same hp as the Viper at the time, the 510hp Dodge Ram SRT-10. Ford is the only one without a top sports car, so the Mustang can go as high as it wants to. When the Ford GT was around, the SVT Cobra was nowhere close to the 550 hp of the GT. When production of the GT ended in 2006, the 2007 GT500 got 500 hp and has increased since.

dam thats gonna be expensive there already expensive for a old technology car they don't need more hp they need a new light material frame and new high tech suspension in order to sell it for more than they already are.. i like challengers i wanted one at first but there too over priced for a heavy car..
