V6 sales are usually Mustangs bread and butter anyways.

Now hopefully GM won't screw up the Camaro. The Camaro great sales have very little to do with total HP. We are HP junkies in this forum, but most people buy the Camaro for its looks, not its HP numbers.

But I'm sure GM will setup and increase the HP numbers across the board to keep in competive with the Mustang.
I know there have actually been a few months where the Mustang has outsold the Camaro since the 5th gen came out. You have to realize there are many factors to this. For starters there was a pent up demand for the Camaros that had been missing for 8 years. It was the new thing out there. The sales have gotten closer and closer over the years. When the new mustang comes out there will be as much fanfare for it as there was for the 5th gen and it will have the benefit of being the new big thing. I will hedge my bet that the Mustang will take it's top seller spot back.

I certainly would not call anyone who buys these cars based on performance clueless, that IS the real reason why these cars exist as they are. If it was just a matter of looks you could could throw the Camaro body on a Cruze platform and be done with it, but I can guarantee you would lose a LOT of sales.

I said they base it solely on HP, not performance. I once had a person tell me that my car was better than the Mustang because it has 6 more HP.

I can't wait until the new Mustang and Camaro come out, so I can do some good ol' fashioned car comparison shopping. I narrowed it down to those two out of all the things that are coming out in the next 2 years. If the Mustang comes in under 3,400 lbs with 475hp, it will be a pretty good contender, dare I say it, against a base C7?

Been saying this for a long time. As long as the cars are decently competitive in performance, its will always be the LOOK of the car that determines the winner.

Next gen mustang, with 475 HP, and at 3,400 lbs would still not outsell a Camaro with 460HP and 3,450 lbs if the Camaro looked much better.

Bet on that.

I'll be in utter amazement if they really can shed a couple hundred lbs off the current Mustang and throw a 475HP V8 in there. It will be a freaking monster.

I predict the next gen Camaro V8 to be around 3,550 lbs and have the LT1 with 450 or so HP...that alone will demolish the current pony cars. If Ford does even better it will be something.

Welcome to the new golden age of muscle.

...and all I want is a measly 330+ HP V6 in a 3,400 lb Camaro.

475 shouldn't be too hard to get, the Boss is at 444 already. I am more curious at the base engine and weight. A 275hp four in a 3200lb base model could make for some decent track cars.

475 in just a gt sounds far fetched. 10 years ago 420 or 426 was far fetched as well though. Man I hope it doesn't jump to 475. A big jump in Camaro hp will kill our value as well.... Look at the 10 vs 11 mustang values.

Keep in mind that the 450 number on the LT1 is always proceeded by the words "at least". I have a feeling the real number is going to be 465-475. Also, we already know that the 6th Gen Camaro will be smaller and light, riding on the new lightweight Alpha architecture that just debuted under the Cadillac ATS.

I hope that 475 isn't going to be their top motor. That will put them behind when we already have 580hp camaros and 662hp mustangs running around.

Well I was unimpressed with my 12 5.0 mainly due to the transmission. If Ford came back next year with a light weight 475 hp 5.0 I could be lured back to give the 5.0 another shot but only in an automatic version. Is the Boss dead for 15? Will it be replaced by another version maybe Mach 1 or something?

Just keep that pile of junk MT-82 transmission out of it!!!!! If they offered the Boss 302 with an auto option, I would have one now instead of the GT500. That Boss 302 engine is bad ass but the transmission behind it is junk. Also, im still a little hesitant to trust DI 100% yet. GM says the carbon buildup problem is taken care of but im not trusting anything until we see the cars on the road with no issues. Im sure Ford will be going DI too.

I don't think there will be a "GT500" for 2015 either. Might have to wait a few years for that to come back.
