X8SW706414 has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Theft Records.
Got this back...I don't know what to tell you.

Just went and checked my stamped cowl number and tag number on my Maxima.. They both match.
I guess we have no other choice but to let this one go. |

Ok, possible scenario..
Owner bought this nice Corsair without a title. Owner had a junk Corsair with a title. Owner registered the junk Corsair as the nice one. No one noticed for years until you started asking questions. Sounds like you need to go through the red tape to get a replacement VIN Don't let this car go, resurrect it. Do it for dad. |

Where'd you find the cowl number on your Maxima?

I've been through similar situations in the past. The owner of the vehicle can apply for a replacement vin tag, doesn't mean one will be issued and it is quite possible the car can be impounded. I would have the current owner apply for the tag, if he gets it you buy it, if not, walk away.

Eh. Can't find it on my Envoy.
All may not be lost though. Our cars were all completely built and assembled at the factory so it would only make sense that all numbers would match, there would be no reason not to. These older cars had their bodies manufactured elsewhere and shipped to the final assembly point. I don't know. It's up to you whether or not you want to give up but I know it's important to you both.
